Pharmacodynamics:

A combination of antiseptic and local anesthetic. It is used in ENT-practice.

Benzoxonium chloride is an antiseptic, in chemical structure it is a quaternary ammonium salt. Has a pronounced antibacterial effect on gram-positive (to a greater extent) and on gram-negative (to a lesser extent) microorganisms. The drug has antifungal, as well as antiviral effect, especially for membrane viruses of influenza, parainfluenza and herpes.

Lidocaine - a local anesthetic, with inflammatory processes relieving pain that occurs when swallowing.

Pharmacokinetics:

Benzoxonium chloride when absorbed in the oral cavity is not absorbed. It is not found in the blood, does not accumulate in the tissues of the body. About 1% of the administered dose of the drug is found in the urine.

Lidocaine when absorbed by the drug is absorbed by the oral mucosa. It is subjected to presystemic elimination, metabolized in the liver. It is excreted in the urine in the form of metabolites, less than 10% - in unchanged form.

Indications:

Infectious-inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity and pharynx (catarrhal angina, laryngitis, pharyngitis, stomatitis, ulcerative gingivitis).

In the treatment of chronic tonsillitis drug is used as an auxiliary.

Contraindications:
  • Hypersensitivity to ammonium salts or lidocaine
  • Children under 4 years old
  • I trimester of pregnancy
  • Lactation period

Carefully:

Children's age, chronic alcoholism.

Pregnancy and lactation:

The drug is contraindicated for use in the first trimester of pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding).

Adequate and strictly controlled clinical studies of the safety of the drug during pregnancy have not been conducted.

In experimental studies, the effect of the drug on reproductive function and fetal development was not found.

There are no clinical data on the release of active substances with breast milk. However, the drug is not recommended for use during breastfeeding.

Dosing and Administration:

Inside. The tablet should dissolve slowly in the mouth.

Adults take 1 tablet every 2-3 hours, with severe symptoms of the disease - every 1-2 hours.

Single dose - 1 tablet.

The daily dose is 10 tablets.

Children, starting with 4 years of age, 1 tablet every 2-3 hours.

Single dose - 1 tablet.

The daily dose is 6 tablets.

Side effects:
  • Local irritation of the tongue, mucous membrane of the mouth.
  • Reversible brown color of the tongue and teeth with the use of the drug for more than 2 weeks.
  • Allergic reactions.
Overdose:

Symptoms: with the occasional use of high doses of the drug, nausea and vomiting may occur.

Treatment: drink a glass of milk or take a raw whipped egg white.

Interaction:

Simultaneous use of anionic agents (toothpaste) reduces the effectiveness of benzoxonium chloride.

Ethanol increases the absorption of benzoxonium chloride.

Special instructions:

During the treatment with the drug should avoid drinking alcohol.
