ATX: & nbsp
  • Iron protein succinylate
  • Pharmacodynamics:Ferlatum - a preparation of iron, replenishes the lack of iron in the body.
    The main function of iron is the transfer of oxygen to the tissues. Iron is a part of hemoglobin, myoglobin, iron-containing cytochrome enzymes, carries electrons and acts as a catalyst for oxidation, hydroxylation and other metabolic processes.
    Ferlatum contains iron-protein succinylate, which is a complex compound, where the trivalent iron atoms (Fe3+ ) are surrounded by a semisynthetic protein carrier, which prevents damage to the gastric mucosa. The protein carrier is redissolved in the duodenum, releasing iron at the site of its better absorption.
    From the intestine to the blood, trivalent iron comes through active absorption, which explains the impossibility of overdosing and poisoning.
    Indications:- Treatment of latent and clinically pronounced iron deficiency (iron deficiency anemia);
    - Prophylactic therapy of iron deficiency during pregnancy, lactation, active growth; after prolonged bleeding, against a background of inferior and unbalanced nutrition.
    Contraindications:- Hypersensitivity to the drug;
    - Iron overload (hemochromatosis);
    - Disruption of iron utilization (lead anemia, sidero-anh- mal anemia);
    - Non-iron deficiency anemia (hemolytic anemia, megaloblastic anemia, caused by a lack of vitamin B12 );
    - Chronic pancreatitis;
    - Cirrhosis of the liver.
    Pregnancy and lactation:The use of the drug Ferlatum can be recommended for the prevention and treatment of iron deficiency that develops during pregnancy and lactation.
    Dosing and Administration:Ferlatum is taken internally before or after a meal.
    Adults: 1-2 bottles per day in an amount equivalent to 40-80 mg of Fe3+ or in accordance with the recommendations of a doctor, in 2 divided doses.
    Children: 1.5 ml / kg / day (in an amount equivalent to 4 mg / kg / day of Fe3+ ) in 2 divided doses or in accordance with the doctor's recommendations.
    Pregnant women:
    For the prevention of iron deficiency anemia - 1 bottle per day.
    For treatment of latent or clinically pronounced iron deficiency - 1-2 vials a day in 2 divided doses.
    After reaching the normal values of serum iron and hemoglobin, the treatment is continued for at least 8-12 weeks, setting a maintenance dose.
    Side effects:In rare cases, the occurrence of gastrointestinal disorders (including diarrhea, constipation, nausea and epigastric pain) is possible, usually with the use of elevated doses of Ferlatum, which disappear when the dose is lowered or the drug is withdrawn.
    Overdose:To date, no signs of intoxication and excessive intake of the Ferlatum preparation in the body have been described.
    However, the first 6-8 hours after applying excessive doses of iron preparations may cause epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting (sometimes with a trace of blood), diarrhea, in some cases accompanied by drowsiness, pale skin. Perhaps the development of a shock state up to coma.Immediate medical measures prior to the provision of qualified medical care include gastric lavage.
    Interaction:No interaction of Ferlatum with other drugs was noted. However, the derivatives of iron contribute to the disruption of the absorption of tetracyclines in the gastrointestinal tract, therefore simultaneous application should be avoided.
    The absorption of iron can be increased with simultaneous administration of more than 200 mg of ascorbic acid and reduced with the use of antacids. Chloramphenicol causes a delayed response to iron therapy.
    There was a lack of pharmacological interaction with concomitant treatment with H antagonists2 receptors.
    Special instructions:A continuous period of application of Ferlatum should not exceed 6 months, except for cases of chronic hemorrhage (menorrhagia, hemorrhoids, etc.) and pregnancy.
    Does not affect the employment of potentially hazardous activities that require an increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions (including driving).
    Form release / dosage:Solution for oral administration of 800 mg of 15 ml.
