  • Pharmacodynamics:
Carnosine is a histidine-containing dipeptide, one of the natural metabolic products. In the human body. It is a biologically active dipeptide, which affects metabolic processes: glycolysis, oxidative phosphorylation. The mechanism of action is due to antioxidant and membrane-protective action. Carnosine inhibits lipid peroxidation, enhances antioxidant defense, increases the body's resistance to the effects of various pathological factors in oxygen-dependent states. Carnosine has an accelerating effect on the processes of oxidative phosphorylation. Strengthens the synthesis of ATP, increases the ratio of Ca2 + / ATP in the disturbed active transport of calcium ions in the sarcoplasmic reticulum, increases the efficiency of active transport of sodium and potassium ions.
Accelerates the healing of defects and damage to the corneal epithelium of traumatic, chemical, radiation, infectious and trophic etiology. Has a pronounced therapeutic effectiveness in the complex treatment of trophic keratitis, postherpetic epitheliopathy, primary and secondary corneal dystrophy, recurrent corneal erosion, bullous keratopathy. Carnosine as part of complex therapy accelerates the healing of ulcerous keratopathies of the cornea with herpesvirus and bacterial infection, dry keratoconjunctivitis.
    Pharmacokinetics:
When applying eye drops of carnosine, the active substance in biologically active concentrations does not enter the systemic circulation. Therapeutic concentration is achieved with topical application of the drug in tissues and biological fluids of the eye.
Carnosine is completely metabolized in the human body and does not accumulate in organs and tissues.
    Indications:
As part of complex therapy: keratopathy of various etiologies, ulcerative keratitis, metabolic diseases of the corneal tissues.
Contraindications:Hypersensitivity to carnosine or other components of the drug.Children under 18 years of age (efficacy and safety not established).
Carefully:The drug is used with caution in patients with a history of allergic anamnesis.
Pregnancy and lactation:Contraindicated in pregnancy and during lactation (efficacy and safety not established). For the period of treatment it is necessary to stop breastfeeding.
Dosing and Administration:Locally. The drug is instilled in the subconjunctival sac by 1-3 drops 4-6 times a day. The duration of the course of treatment depends on the course of the disease (usually 1-3 weeks) and is determined by the doctor.
Side effects:Burning in the eye (usually does not require cancellation).
Overdose:The phenomena of overdose in the application of carnorine are not described.
    Interaction:
Negative manifestations in the application of Carnorin in the case of concomitant use with other drugs are not described.
It can be used in complex therapy together with idoxuridine, ocular ointment acyclovir, dexamethasone.
Special instructions:The preservative contained in the eye drops can be deposited on soft contact lenses (cause a change in their color) and irritate the tissueseyes when they are applied. Contact lenses should be removed before instillation and dress 15 minutes later.
Effect on the ability to drive transp. cf. and fur:Patients who, after applying the drug, temporarily change their clear vision, do not recommend the management of vehicles and other potentially dangerous mechanisms.
