Composition:

Buckthorn bark.

Characteristic:

The bark of the buckthorn is alder-like or the buckthorn is fragile contains the antraglycosides frangulin,glucofran-grulin, frangulaemodine, chrysofanoic acid, tannins, organic acids, essential oil, sugars, alkaloids and other biologically active substances.

Description:Pieces of bark of various shapes passing through a sieve with apertures measuring 7 mm. The color of the bark from the outside is dark brown, gray-brown, dark gray or gray, with internal - yellowish-orange or reddish-brown. The smell is weak. The taste of water extract is bitterish.

Pharmacodynamics:Has a laxative effect due to the presence of anthracene derivatives of glycosides, causing irritation of receptors of the mucous membrane of the large intestine. The laxative effect usually occurs 8-12 hours after ingestion.
Indications:Chronic constipation.
Contraindications:Hypersensitivity to the drug, constipation of neurogenic and endocrine origin, spastic constipation, intestinal obstruction, acute abdominal syndrome, appendicitis, enteritis, colitis, metrorrhagia, acute febrile conditions, pregnancy, the period of breastfeeding, children under 12 years.
Dosing and Administration:

20 g (2 tablespoons) of bark are placed in enameled dishes, pour 200 ml (1 cup) of hot boiled water, cover with a lid and insist on a boiling water bath with frequent stirring for 30 minutes, cool 10 minutes at room temperature, filter, the remaining raw material is squeezed . The volume of the resulting broth is brought to boiling water to 200 ml. Take inside 1/2 glass for the night and in the morning.

It is recommended to stir up the broth before use.

Side effects:

There may be allergic reactions (skin rash), a feeling of discomfort in the abdomen.

Overdose:

Colic pain in the abdomen, tenesmus. Treatment: symptomatic. Special instructions. With prolonged use of the drug buckthorn can develop addiction and weakening or lack of laxative effect, so it is advisable to alternate them with other laxatives.
