Composition:

Peppermint leaves.

Characteristic

Leaves peppermint contains an essential oil, which includes menthol and its esters (β-pinene, limonene, cineole, dipentene, пулегон and other terpenoids), flavonoids and other biologically active substances.

Description:

Pieces of leaves of various forms, sometimes with an admixture of buds, flowers and their parts, pieces of thin tetrahedral stems, passing through a sieve with holes up to 7 mm in size. Edge of leaf is serrate with unequal sharp prongs; the surface is bare, only underneath the veins under the magnifying glass are visible rare, pressed hairs and along the entire plate of the leaf - shiny golden yellow or darker glands. The color is dark green with inclusions of light green, green, greenish-brown, dark purple, light brown and whitish. The smell is strong, fragrant. The taste of the water extract is slightly burning, cooling.

  • Pharmacodynamics:

    Infusion of peppermint leaves has spasmolytic, calming, choleretic, antiemetic and locally irritating effects.

    Indications:

    Symptomatic therapy: spasms of smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract, nausea, vomiting.

    Contraindications:Hypersensitivity to the drug, early childhood (up to 3 years).
    Pregnancy and lactation:

    Application in pregnancy and during breastfeeding is possible if the expected benefit for the mother exceeds the potential risk for the child. Consultation of the attending physician is necessary.

    Dosing and Administration:

    5 g (1 tablespoon) peppermint leaves are placed in an enamel dish, pour 200 ml (1 cup) of hot boiled water, capped, and heated in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes, cooled at room temperature for 45 minutes, filtered, the remaining raw materials squeeze. The volume of the infusion obtained is adjusted to 200 ml with boiled water.

    Take 2-3 times a day for 15 minutes before meals: children from 3 to 6 years for 1 dessert spoon, children from 7 to 14 years - 1-2 tablespoons, children over 14 years and adults - 1/2 -1/3 cup.

    Before use, the infusion is recommended to be shaken.

    Side effects:

    Allergic reactions are possible.

    Overdose:

    To date, cases of overdoses have not been recorded.

    Interaction:

    Not studied.

    Special instructions:

    If symptoms persist against the background of the disease, the doctor should be consulted while taking the medication.

    The intake of the drug does not affect the ability to carry out potentially dangerous activities requiring special attention and quick reactions (driving and other vehicles, working with moving mechanisms, dispatcher and operator work, etc.).
