    Pharmacodynamics:

    It blocks potential-dependent sodium channels, causing membrane stabilization. Inhibits activity L-, N-, P-calcium channels, which inhibits the release of glutamate, which stimulates the amino acid involved in the formation of epileptic discharges in the brain.

    Pharmacokinetics:

    After oral administration, it is completely and rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The maximum concentration in blood plasma is reached after 2.5 hours. It binds to plasma proteins by 55%. Metabolism in the liver by glucuronation.

    The half-life is 29 h.Elimination by the kidneys in the form of glucuronides, about 10% - in unchanged form, with feces - about 2%.

    Indications:

    Used as a monotherapy, or additional therapy for epilepsy in adults and children from 2 years. It is used as a means of monotherapy for the treatment of typical absences.

    Chronic renal failure, individual intolerance.

    Pregnancy, kidney failure, old age.

    Pregnancy and lactation:

    Recommendations for FDA - Category C. It is used only in cases where the benefits of the drug exceed the risk. It penetrates the placenta and enters the breast milk (up to 60%). When treatment should stop breastfeeding.

    Dosing and Administration:

    Inside.

    Children 2-12 years: 2-15 mg / kg per day in two divided doses.

    Adults and children from the age of 12 to 25-200 mg per day in two divided doses.

    The highest daily dose: adults - 350 mg, children - 200 mg.

    The highest single dose: adults - 700 mg, children - 400 mg.

    Side effects:

    Central nervous system: dizziness, headache, dysthymia, tremor, ataxia.

    The system of hematopoiesis: thrombocytopenia, and leukopenia.

    Sense organs: blurred vision, conjunctivitis, diplopia.

    Digestive system: nausea.

    Allergic reactions.

    Overdose:

    Symptoms: ataxia, nystagmus, vomiting, coma.

    Treatment: symptomatic. Effective hemodialysis.

    Interaction:

    Drinking alcohol during treatment strengthens the inhibition of the central nervous system.

    Increasing the concentration of the drug with simultaneous application of valproic acid enhances tremor.

    With prolonged use of paracetamol, the concentration of lamotrigine is decreased.

    At 40% the concentration of the drug decreases with simultaneous use with phenobarbital, carbamazepine, fention, primidone, therefore dose adjustment is required.

    Special instructions:

    When using lamotrigine during pregnancy, you should increase the dose of folic acid.

    The drug is withdrawn gradually, within two weeks.

    When taking the drug is not recommended to drive the car and work with moving mechanisms.
