The drug is an essential oil obtained from the leaves and stems of mint. The composition of the drug includes such active substances as menthol esters, cineole, pinenes, menthol, dipentene, menton, jasmone, fellandren, pulegon, esters of acetic and valeric acids.
The drug is irritating predominantly "cold" receptors of the oral cavity and nasopharynx, reduces reflex excitability in the central parts of the nervous system, increases inhibition in the neurons of the cortex and subcortical structures of the brain, reduces the activity of the central vasomotor centers. The drug has a local anesthetic effect, contributes to the reflex expansion of the vessels of the brain, heart and lungs; reduces vomiting, nausea and hiccups, removes skin itching, improves intestinal motility, saliva, helps reduce pressure in the large intestine, eliminates flatulence and has a karminative effect.
Essential oils that make up the drug have an antispasmodic effect on the urinary tract and smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract, stimulate the secretory activity of the digestive glands, exert mucolytic, expectorant,choleretic and moderate antihypoxic effect with inhalation.
The drug also has a deodorizing, antiseptic and refreshing effect.
