Pharmacodynamics:

Nonspecifically binds to phospholipids of the bacterial cell wall, inactivates ATPase and dehydrogenase, breaks the permeability of the membrane for potassium, amino acids and nucleotides.

It is active against gram-positive microorganisms: Escherichia coli, Selenomonas, Streptococcus salivarius, Streptococcus mutans, anaerobes and fungi of the genus Candida albicans, to a lesser extent - for gram-negative microorganisms: Pseudomonas, Proteus, Streptococcus sanguinis, Klebsiella spp., Veillonella species.

Does not interact with skin epithelial cells.

Pharmacokinetics:

A solution of chlorhexidine bigluconate for topical application, has no systemic effect on the body.

Indications:

It is used for treating the hands of the surgeon and the operating field, sterilizing medical instruments, washing surgical wounds, bladder, disinfection of burn wounds, skin of patients, medical equipment. In the form of suppositories it is used for the treatment of inflammatory processes of the vaginal mucosa.

Pregnancy and lactation:

Recommendations for FDA - Category B. Does not have a systemic effect, is used during pregnancy.

Dosing and Administration:

For the purpose of washing the bladder, 0.02% solution is used once a day, 300-400 ml per procedure.

For the treatment of wounds and burns, 0.05% aqueous solution is applied, the affected surface is washed with this solution, then a napkin impregnated with chlorhexidine is applied, then fixed with a band-aid or bandage.

To process the operating field, a 20% solution is used, diluted with 70% alcohol in a ratio of 1:40, twice with an interval of 2 minutes.For disinfection of hands, a 0.5% water-alcohol solution is used. Before handling, hands should be washed with soap under running water for 5 minutes using a brush. For sterilizing instruments an aqueous solution is used for 3 hours at a temperature of 70 °FROM.

A 0.1% aqueous solution is used to disinfect the sanitary equipment and facilities.

With gynecological diseases: 1 suppository 2-4 times a day. In order to prevent sexually transmitted diseases, a vaginal suppository is used no later than 2 hours after sexual intercourse and a 0.05% solution for douching and treatment of the inner surfaces of the thighs.

Side effects:

Dermatological reactions: dermatitis, dry skin, itching.

Allergic reactions.

Overdose:

Cases of overdose are not described.

Treatment is symptomatic.

Interaction:

With simultaneous use with iodine preparations, the risk of developing dermatitis increases.

Incompatible with soap and other detergents containing an anionic group: sodium carboxymethylcellulose, saponins, sodium lauryl sulfate.

It is combined with detergents with a cationic group: benzalkonium chloride, cetrimonium bromide.

Special instructions:

Not applicable for eye treatment, except for a special solution.
