Laxative product of plant origin (senna leaf or Alexandrian leaf, or cassia leaf holly).
The pharmacological action is due to anthraglikozidami (mainly sennozidami A and B), as well as other glycosides. When used internally, the senna glycosides pass through the stomach and small intestine unchanged, not absorbed. In the large intestine, the anthroglycosides are digested by intestinal bacteria into pharmacologically active anthrons and anthranoles, which irritate the intestinal receptors of the colon, increase peristalsis, and accelerate the evacuation of the intestine.Antrons and anthranols interfere with the absorption of water and electrolytes, promote the diffusion of water into the lumen of the intestine.
Due to the osmotic effect, loosening of the stool masses and increasing their volume, contributing to the relaxing effect of anthraglycosides.
The laxative effect is manifested after 6-10 hours. With prolonged use of the drug, its intensity may decrease due to a decrease in the potassium content in the body.
The drug is well tolerated by patients, due to the low content of resinous substances, it does not irritate the intestines.
