Senna leaves.

Characteristic

Senna leaves contain anthraglycosides (glucoaloe-emodin, glucorein,sennosides A and B), flavonoids, resinous substances, mucus, macro- and microelements and other biologically active substances.

Description:

Pieces of raw materials of various shapes, passing through a sieve with holes of 7 mm. Color grayish green. The smell is weak. The taste of the water extract is slightly bitter, with a sensation of mucus.

  • Pharmacodynamics:

    Decoction of senna leaves has a laxative effect. The drug causes chemical irritation of the receptors of the intestinal mucosa, reflexively enhances its peristalsis. The therapeutic effect develops 8-12 hours after taking the drug.

    Indications:

    Chronic constipation (hypo-, atony of the large intestine), regulation of stools with hemorrhoids and proctitis (outside exacerbation), anal fissures.

    Contraindications:

    Hypersensitivity to the drug, perforated ulcer, intestinal obstruction, abdominal pain of unknown origin, disturbance of water-electrolyte metabolism, acute inflammatory diseases of the abdominal cavity organs, proctitis and hemorrhoids in the acute stage, strangulated hernia, bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract,uterine bleeding, cystitis, spastic colitis, spastic constipation, pregnancy, the period of breastfeeding, children under 12 years.

    Dosing and Administration:

    About 10 g (2 tablespoons) of senna leaves are placed in enameled pots, pour 200 ml (1 glass) of hot boiled water, cover with a lid and heat in a boiling water bath for 30 minutes, then continue to infuse at room temperature until completely cooled, filter through a double layer of gauze, the remaining raw material is squeezed. The volume of the resulting broth is brought to boiling water to 200 ml.

    Accepted inwards 1/2 cup of broth in the evening after eating. The course of treatment is 2-3 weeks.

    It is recommended to stir the broth before use.

    Side effects:

    Possible allergic reactions, abdominal pain, flatulence, diarrhea.

    With prolonged use - colitis.

    Overdose:

    Symptoms: diarrhea, disturbance of water-electrolyte metabolism.

    Treatment: symptomatic.

    Interaction:

    Senna preparations reduce the absorption of tetracycline.

    Special instructions:

    With long-term use of senna preparations, habituation can develop, so it is advisable to alternate with other laxatives.

    Effect on the ability to drive transp. cf. and fur:

    The use of the drug does not affect the performance of potentially hazardous activities requiring an increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions (vehicle management, work with moving mechanisms).

    Form release / dosage:The leaves are crushed.
    Packaging:For 50 grams in a pack of cardboard with an inner paper bag.

    Storage conditions:

    In a dry place protected from light.

    Ready-made broth stored in a cool place for no more than 2 days.

    Keep out of the reach of children.

    Shelf life:

    3 years.

    Do not use after expiry date.
