Licorice roots.
Characteristic
Licorice roots contain glycyrrhizic acid, licurazide, flavonoids, mucous and other biologically active substances.
Description:

Pieces of roots of various shapes, usually fibrous, yellow or with cork remnants, rarely some gray-brown plugs passing through a sieve with holes of 7 mm. The smell is absent. The taste of water extract is sweet, sugary, slightly irritating.

  • Pharmacodynamics:

    Decoction of licorice roots exerts expectorant, anti-inflammatory action.

    Indications:

    In the complex therapy of infectious-inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract (mainly in the presence of poorly separated, thick and viscous secretions); hyperacid gastritis, peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum (as part of complex therapy).

    Contraindications:

    Hypersensitivity to the drug, bronchial asthma; gastritis, peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum during the exacerbation, pregnancy, the period of breastfeeding, children under 1 year.

    Dosing and Administration:

    About 8 g (2 tablespoons) of licorice root are placed in enameled dishes, pour 200 ml (1 glass) of cooled boiled water,cover and heat on a boiling water bath for 30 minutes, cool at room temperature for 10 minutes, filter. The remaining raw material is squeezed. The volume of the resulting broth is brought to 200 ml with boiled water.

    Adults and children over 12 years of age prescribe inside 1 tablespoon 3-4 times a day.

    Children from 1 to 3 years old - 1 teaspoonful 2-3 times a day, from 3 to 5 years - 1 dessert spoon 2-3 times a day, ot 5 to 12 years - 1 dessert spoon 3-4 times a day.

    The course of treatment is 2-3 weeks.

    It is recommended to stir the broth before use.

    Side effects:

    Allergic reactions are possible; in some cases, there may be dyspepsia (diarrhea).

    Overdose:

    With prolonged use in doses exceeding the recommended, it is possible to increase blood pressure, hypokalemia, the appearance of peripheral edema due to violation of water-salt metabolism.

    Treatment: symptomatic.

    Interaction:

    It is possible to simultaneously prescribe other drugs used in the treatment of bronchopulmonary diseases.

    Do not use simultaneously with drugs containing codeine, and other antitussive agents, as this makes it difficult to cough up thinned phlegm.

    Special instructions:Before using the drug should consult a doctor.
    To avoid overdose, it is recommended to follow the dosage regimen of the drug.
    Effect on the ability to drive transp. cf. and fur:

    The intake of the drug does not affect the ability to perform potentially dangerous activities requiring increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions (driving and other vehicles, working with moving mechanisms).

    For 50 grams in a pack of cardboard with an internal paper, polymer or polypropylene package.

    Storage conditions:

    In a dry place protected from light; cooked broth - in a cool place no more than 2 days.

    Keep out of the reach of children.

    Shelf life:
