    Characteristic

    Pumpkin seeds contain fatty oil, protein, B vitamins, ascorbic acid, carotenoids, phytosterol, phytin, leucine, lecithin, tyrosine, salicylic acid, resinous substances.

    Description:

    Seeds are elliptical, dense, slightly narrowed on one side, bordered along the rim by a rim. The surface of the seeds is glossy or matte, smooth or slightly rough. The rind of the seed consists of two parts: a woody, easily detachable and inner - a filmy, tightly fitting to the embryo; sometimes there is no woody peel (sort of gymnosperm). The embryo consists of two yellowish-white cotyledons and a small root. The length of the seed is 1.5-2.5 cm, width 0.8 - 1.4 cm, the thickness in the middle part of the seed is 0.1 - 0.4 mm. The color of the seeds is white, white with a yellowish and grayish tinge, less often greenish-gray or yellow. The color of the seed of the gymnosperm variety is from yellowish-green to greenish-brown. The smell is absent. The taste of seeds, peeled from the woody part of the peel, and copra gymnosperm - oily, sweetish.

    Pharmacodynamics:

    Pumpkin seeds are effective against various banded worms (bovine, pork and dwarf chain, wide ribbon, etc.). By activity, the drug is inferior to modern synthetic drugs, but it does not have toxic effects and does not cause side effects.

    Indications:Pumpkin seeds are prescribed as an anthelmintic remedy, mainly with poor tolerability of other antihelminthic agents, against various tapeworms (bovine, pig and dwarf chain, broad ribbon, etc.).
    Contraindications:Hypersensitivity to the drug, children under 3 years.
    Pregnancy and lactation:

    Application during pregnancy and during lactation is possible if the expected benefit for the mother exceeds the potential risk to the fetus and the baby. It is necessary to consult a doctor

    Dosing and Administration:

    Two days before the application of pumpkin seeds, the patient is prescribed an enema every morning and a salt laxative the day before. On the day of treatment, an enema is placed on an empty stomach irrespective of the presence of a stool.

    Pumpkin seeds are used in two ways:

    1. Pumpkin seeds are peeled from the hard peel, leaving the inner green shell; 300 g of peeled seeds (for adults) grind in small portions in a mortar, after the last portion, the mortar is washed with 50-60 ml (1/4 cup) of water and poured into a bowl with ground seeds; you can add 50-100 g of honey or jam and mix thoroughly. The received mixture of the patient takes on an empty stomach, lying in bed, in small portions for 1 hour; After 3 hours they give a laxative, then in half an hour, regardless of the action of the intestine, they put an enema. Eating is allowed after a stool caused by an enema or laxative.

    At day time, children are prescribed in the following age-related dosages:

    3-4 years - 75 g; 5-7 years - 100 g; 8-10 years - 150 g; 10-15 years - 200-250.

    2. Pumpkin seeds are ground together with the skin in a meat grinder or a mortar, poured with a double amount of water and evaporated for 2 hours on a light fire in a water bath without boiling; the broth is filtered through gauze, after which the oil film is removed from the surface of the broth. The whole broth is taken on an empty stomach for 20-30 minutes. 2 hours after taking the decoction give a salt laxative. Adults designate a decoction of 500 g of untreated seeds, children of 10 years - from 300 g; 5-7 years - from 200 g; up to 5 years - 100-150 g.

    Seeds of pumpkin gymnosperm (not having a solid peel) apply! without treatment for 150-200 g per reception; (150 g of seeds per 450 ml of water is boiled in a water bath for an hour, cooled, filtered through a dense tissue: an adult dose of 400-450 ml of decoction) and an emulsion (150 g of seeds are triturated with the addition of 450 ml water, the dose for adults is 400-450 ml).
