Characteristic
Valerian rhizomes with roots contain essential oils, the main part of which is the ester of borneol and isovaleric acid, free valerian acid, borneol, organic acids, alkaloids (valerine, hatinin), tannins, sugars and other biologically active substances.
Description:

Pieces of rhizomes and cylindrical pieces of thin roots of various shapes from light brown to dark brown, passing through a sieve with apertures measuring 7 mm.

The smell is strong, fragrant. The taste of the water extract is spicy, sweetish-bitterish.

  • Pharmacodynamics:

    Infusion of rhizomes with the roots of valerian shows a moderately pronounced sedative effect. Sedation is slow, but fairly stable. In addition, the drug has antispasmodic properties.

    Indications:

    Increased nervous excitability, insomnia; in the complex therapy - functional disorders of the cardiovascular system, spasms of the organs of the gastrointestinal tract.

    Contraindications:

    Hypersensitivity to the drug; children under 1 year.

    Pregnancy and lactation:

    Application during pregnancy and during breastfeeding is possible if the expected benefit to the mother exceeds the potential risk to the fetus and the baby. Consultation of the doctor is necessary.

    Dosing and Administration:

    About 9 g (2 tablespoons) of valerian rhizomes with roots of crushed are placed in enameled dishes, pour 200 ml (1 cup) of hot boiled water, cover with a lid and heat in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes, cool at room temperature for 45 minutes, filter, left raw materials squeeze. The volume of the infusion obtained is brought to boiling water to 200 ml.

    Infusion appoint inside, 30 minutes after eating: adults - 1 tablespoon 3-4 times a day; children over 12 years - 1 tablespoon 2-3 times a day; children from 7 to 12 -year - on 1 dessert spoon 2-3 times a day; children from 3 to 7 years - 1 teaspoonful 2-3 times a day; children from 1 year to 3 years - for ½ teaspoon 2 times a day.

    Before use, the infusion is recommended to be shaken.

    Side effects:

    Drowsiness, weakness, decreased efficiency, with prolonged use - constipation.

    In some cases, the development of allergic reactions is possible.

    Overdose:

    Overdose can be observed, drowsiness, increased fatigue, depressed state, dizziness.

    Treatment symptomatic.

    Interaction:

    Strengthens the effect of hypnotics and sedatives, as well as antispasmodics.

    Effect on the ability to drive transp. cf. and fur:

    During the treatment period, care must be taken when driving vehicles and engaging in other potentially dangerous activities that require increased concentration and speed of psychomotor reactions.
