Composition:1 g ointment ophthalmic contains:

Active substance:

Acyclovir 30.00 mg

Excipients:

Vaseline White 970.00 mg

Description:

Homogeneous slightly transparent oily ointment without odor, white or almost white.

Pharmacotherapeutic group:Antiviral for topical use
Pharmacodynamics:

Acyclovir is an antiviral agent from the group of synthetic analogs of acyclic purine nucleoside, deoxyguanidine, which is a component of DNA.

Acyclovir is active against Herpes simplex 1 and 2 types, virus Varicella zoster, the Epstein-Barr virus and cytomegaloviruses. Thymidine kinase virus-infected cells through a series of consecutive reactions actively converts acyclovir in mono-, di- and triphosphate of acyclovir. The latter interacts with the viral DNA polymerase and is embedded in DNA, which is synthesized for new viruses. Thus, "defective" viral DNA is formed, which leads to suppression of replication of new generations of viruses.

Pharmacokinetics:

Easily penetrates the epithelium of the cornea and creates a therapeutic concentration in the eye fluid.

Indications:

Herpetic keratitis.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to acyclovir or other components of the drug.

Pregnancy and lactation:Since the effectiveness and safety of treatment with acyclovir in children, during pregnancy and lactation are not established, it is not recommended to use the drug in these categories of patients.
Dosing and Administration:

Locally. One centimeter of ophthalmic ointment is inserted into the lower conjunctival sac 5 times a day at 4-hour intervals. The duration of treatment is usually 7-10 days, with interstitial forms - up to 10-20 days.

After healing acyclovir must be appointed for at least three more days.

Side effects:

Very rarely arise:

Local: slight burning sensation at the application site, blepharitis, conjunctivitis, superficial keratopathy (does not require cessation of treatment and disappears without consequences), pain in the eyes, itching of the skin around the eyes, skin rash, erythema of the skin around the eyes, mild dryness of the mucous membrane of the eye.

Overdose:

There is no evidence of an overdose with topical application. Since absorption of acyclovir is possible in minimal amounts, the probability of systemic action is not ruled out.

Symptoms in systemic application: headache, neurological disorders, dyspnea, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, impaired renal function, lethargy, convulsions, coma.

Treatment: symptomatic; maintenance of vital functions, hemodialysis.

Interaction:An increase in the effect is noted with the simultaneous appointment of immunostimulants.
