Pharmacodynamics:

A substance containing bismuth. With external and rectal application it has an astringent and drying effect.

When ingested bismuth subgallate in combination with bismuth subnitrate formed a protective layer on the surface of erosion and ulcers, which protects them from the effects of hydrochloric acid and pepsin.

Pharmacokinetics:

Not absorbed. It acts externally.

Indications:

Inflammatory diseases of the skin and mucous membranes, accompanied by exudation (ulcers, dermatitis, eczema), hemorrhoids, genital warts; diarrhea, ulcerative colitis.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity.

Carefully:

External means. Use with caution in case of skin lesions.

Pregnancy and lactation:Contraindications to use during pregnancy and lactation.
Dosing and Administration:

Outer, inward, rectally. Ointment with inflammatory diseases of the skin and mucous membranes is applied a thin layer on the affected areas.

With hemorrhoids use suppositories.

Inside (as part of various drugs) used for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.

Side effects:

Allergic reactions are possible.

Overdose:

Since it is very rarely used for oral administration, acute poisoning, as a consequence of an overdose, is infrequent. With chronic intoxication, a febrile condition is noted, disturbances from gastrointestinal tract, rash, stomatitis, nephritis and nephrosis. Sometimes there is a dark border around the gums. An effective antidote is dimercaprol and other sulfhydryl compounds.

Interaction:

The combination of bismuth subglallate and bismuth subnitrate should not be taken concomitantly with antacid agents.
