Zedex can be prescribed concomitantly with other drugs used in the treatment of bronchopulmonary diseases. Zedex is not prescribed concomitantly with antitussive agents (including those containing
codeine).
Bromhexine, part of Zedex, contributes to the penetration of antibiotics (erythromycin, cephalexin, oxytetracycline, ampicillin, amoxicillin) into the lung tissue, but its combined use with salicylates, phenylbutazone and oxyphenbutazone can cause severe irritation of the gastric mucosa. Alcohol, which is part of the syrup, can change the effect of other medicines.
Because the drug includes dextromethorphan, simultaneous use with MAO inhibitors is contra-indicated (it is possible to act on the CNS and expressed respiratory depression), amiodarone (can inhibit the metabolism of dextromethorphan in the liver and increase its toxicity), antidepressants - serotonin reuptake inhibitorsfluoxetine, paroxetine). Dextromethorphan can potentiate the analgesic effect of opioids.
