Russians will be paid extra for medicines

People who spend more than 10 percent of their income on vital medicines can begin to offset some of these costs.

The State Duma was introduced bill, which provides for such subsidies from the regional budgets for the purchase of medicines prescribed by doctors or paramedics.

The document specifies that if a person's income is higher than the subsistence minimum, then he should spend no more than 10 percent of his funds on medicines from the list of vital and essential medicines (VED), all the rest - to compensate the state. If his income is below the subsistence level, then the allowable expenditure on drugs will be less than 10 percent, and accordingly, the amount of compensation should be more.

"The situation with providing citizens with vital and essential medicines due to the hardest financial situation of the vast majority of the population of our country, when according to official data over the poverty line there are more than 23 million people, is critical and requires immediate state intervention in co-financing the purchase of the most needed for the population medicines ", - the explanatory note to the document says. It also says that the prices of medicines, the manufacture of which depends overwhelmingly on imported components, has increased by 50-150 percent in recent years.

The bill is intended to help people who are in a critical situation due to the fact that they are forced to spend huge money on drugs from the list of VED, in spite of the fact that the state regulates prices for them.
