    Pharmacodynamics:

Minoxidil is a peripheral vasodilator. With topical application it has a stimulating effect on hair growth in androgen-dependent alopecia. It improves microcirculation, stimulates the transition of hair cells to the active growing phase, changes the effect of androgens on hair follicles. Reduces the formation of 5-alpha-dehydrosterone (possibly mediated), which plays a significant role in the formation of alopecia. The best effect minoxidil has a disease for a short time (no more than 16 years), young patients, the bald spot in the top of the head is no more than 10 cm; presence in the center of a bald head more than 100 gun and thermal hair. The beginning of stimulation of hair growth begins not earlier than 4 months after the beginning of treatment. After the abolition of therapy, hair growth stops, and in 3-4 months you can expect the restoration of the former appearance. Alopexy® is ineffective in case of baldness caused by medication, malnutrition (iron deficiency, vitamin A deficiency).

Pharmacokinetics:With topical application minoxidil poorly absorbed through normal intact skin, an average of 1.4% (0,3 - 4,5 %) of the total applied dose enters the systemic circulation. With topical application, the level of minoxidil in the serum is determined by the rate of its absorption through the skin. After discontinuation of the drug, approximately 95% Minoxidil, which enters the systemic circulation, is excreted within 4 days. Virtually does not bind to plasma proteins. Minoxidil and its metabolites are excreted by the kidneys.

The use of minoxidil can cause increased hair loss during the transition from the resting phase (telogen) to the hair growth phase (anagen), with old hair falling out, and new ones growing in their place. This temporary phenomenon is usually observed after 2-6 weeks after the start of treatment and gradually stops within the next two weeks (the appearance of the first signs of the action of minoxidil).

There are reports of rare cases of arterial hypotension and hypertrichosis (unwanted hair growth on the body, including facial hair growth in women) after the initiation of minoxidil.

From the side of the cardiovascular system: cases of changes in blood pressure and heart rhythm are described.

    Overdose:

Accidental ingestion can cause serious systemic side effects, associated with the vasodilator action of minoxidil. Signs of an overdose are rapid heartbeat, dizziness, or loss of consciousness (fainting). In these cases, you should immediately call your doctor.

    Interaction:

Simultaneous application of minoxidil and preparations to the skin. outdoor applications such as tretinoin and anthralin / dithranol, which cause changes in the protective functions of the skin, may lead to an increase in the absorption of minoxidil.

    Special instructions:

In addition to hereditary predisposition, hair loss can also be caused by other reasons. Alopexy® prevents hair loss caused by certain medicines, eating disorders (lack of iron or vitamin A in the body), violation of hair trophism, and hair loss as a result of styling in tight hair (tail, bundle).

Before using Alopexy ® it is necessary to consult a doctor, if:

    • hair loss began suddenly,
    • baldness is focal,
    • there is a cardiovascular pathology.

Alopexy® should be discontinued and consulted with a doctor when:

    • the appearance of chest pains,
    • increased heart rate,
    • dizziness or fainting condition,
    • lowering blood pressure,
    • sudden increase in weight and swelling of the hands and / or feet,
    • redness or irritation in the place of rubbing.

More frequent use of the drug or the use of large doses does not lead to an enhanced effect, however, it may contribute to the occurrence of side effects such as dermatitis of the scalp, urticaria.

Alopexy® contains alcohol, which causes irritation of the eye mucosa. If you accidentally contact the drug with sensitive areas (eyes, damaged skin, mucous membranes), it is necessary to wash the affected area with a large amount of running cold water.

Avoid flushing the drug. If possible, apply Alopexy ® on a dry head after washing or wait for about 4 hours after applying the product before washing. Do not let your head get wet earlier than 4 hours after application.

Hairspray and other hair care products can be used during the period of application of the drug Alopexy®. Before applying hair care products, first apply Alopex® and wait until the treated area of the skin is completely dry. There is no evidence that dyeing hair, performing perm, or use of hair softeners may somehow reduce the effectiveness of the drug. However, to prevent possible irritation of the scalp, you need to make sure that Alopexy® has been completely flushed from the hair and scalp, before using these chemicals.

Do not apply Alopexy® to other parts of the body.

In some patients, after application of the drug, a change in the color and structure of the hair was observed.

    • During treatment should avoid too frequent washing your head.
