    Pharmacodynamics:

    Neomycin sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic of broad spectrum, acts bactericidal against Gram-positive (Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus pneumoniae) and Gram-negative (Escherichia coli, Shigella dysenteria spp., Shigella flexneri spp., Shigella boydii spp., Shigella sonnei spp., Proteus spp.) of microorganisms; is inactive with respect to Streptococcus spp. Polymyxin B is a polypeptide antibiotic. Active against gram-negative microorganisms: Escherichia coli, Shigella dysenteria spp., Shigella flexneri spp., Shigella boydii spp., Shigella sonnei spp., Salmonella typhi and Salmonella paratyphi; Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Inactive for Proteus spp., Mycobacterium spp., gram-positive cocci, fungi. Has a weak local irritant effect. Lidocaine - local anesthetic, quickly eliminates pain and itching.

    Pharmacokinetics:

    Pharmacokinetic studies have not been performed, since the drug is intended for topical administration and systemic effects are unlikely.

    Indications:

    Acute and chronic otitis externa, middle acute otitis at the stage before perforation, chronic exudative otitis media; postoperative purulent complications after radical mastoidectomy, tympanoplasty, anthotomy, fenestration.

    Contraindications:

    Hypersensitivity to one of the components of the drug.

    Carefully:

    In children up to one year, the drug should be used only in case of emergency and under the supervision of a doctor.

    Dosing and Administration:

    Locally, into the external auditory meatus by means of a special pipette. After digging for a few minutes, keep your head tilted.

    Adults - 4-5 drops 2-4 times a day, children - 2-3 drops 3-4 times a day, depending on the severity of the disease.

    The course of treatment should not exceed 7 days.

    Side effects:

    Possible local allergic reactions: hyperemia, itching and flaking of the skin of the external auditory canal, which disappear without treatment after drug withdrawal.

    Systemic effects are unlikely due to low doses of the drug used. However, with prolonged treatment, systemic side effects, in particular, ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity due to neomycin absorption.

    Overdose:

    Cases of overdose are not described in the literature.

    Interaction:

    Incompatible with monomycin, streptomycin, gentamycin, amikacin, netilmicin (possible to increase the ototoxic effect of the above antibiotics).

    Special instructions:

    The drug is used exclusively for ear disorders. In severe and persistent infections, local treatment should be supplemented with systemic use of antibiotics.

    Prolonged use of the drug, like other antibiotics, can lead to the development of superinfection resistant to the drug microorganisms.
