    Pharmacodynamics:

Acceptor or donor of protons of oxidation-reduction reactions. It is an antidote of cyanide, aniline, potassium permanganate. In high doses, poisoning with hydrocyanic acid converts hemoglobin to methemoglobin, which binds to cyanides to form a non-toxic cyanmethhemoglobin. In low doses, on the contrary, it restores methhemoglobin to hemoglobin.

It shows antiseptic activity due to interaction with proteins and mucopolysaccharides of microorganisms.

    Pharmacokinetics:

After oral administration, it is almost not absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. After intravenous administration, it is evenly distributed in the body. The maximum concentration in the blood plasma is reached after 30 minutes. Metabolism in the liver before the formation of leukomethylene blue.

The half-life is 6-7 days. Elimination of the kidneys and gastrointestinal tract in the form of leukomethylene blue, which stains the urine in blue, which is used to diagnose kidney function.
