    A.12.C.B.01   Zinc sulfate

    Pharmacodynamics:

Zinc is a microelement that is involved in the metabolism and stabilization of cell membranes. It is part of the main enzymes involved in various biochemical reactions. Affects the processes of regeneration, transmission of nerve impulses. Strengthens the action of insulin, promotes the synthesis of cortisol.

When ingested stimulates the processes of skin regeneration and hair growth, has immunomodulating and in high doses - vomiting action. Effective in the treatment of acne and alopecia. Zinc coagulates proteins with the formation of albumins.

Antimicrobial activity is a consequence of coagulation of proteins of microorganisms. In microquantities it is resorbed and substrate stimulates a number of enzyme systems (including alkaline phosphatase, ACE, alcohol dehydrogenase, superoxide dismutase, and carbonic anhydrase).

Zinc sulfate with local application has antiseptic, astringent, drying and local anti-inflammatory effect.

    Pharmacokinetics:

20-30% of daily intake of zinc is absorbed in the intestine. Vegetable food disrupts the absorption of zinc due to the formation of insoluble chelate compounds in an alkaline environment.Endogenous zinc is reabsorbed in the intestine (intestinal-hepatic circulation). Connection with plasma proteins 60%, 30-40% - with alpha-2-macroglobulin or transferrin, 1% - with amino acids histidine and cysteine. Depot in blood cells, muscles, bones, skin, kidneys, liver, pancreas, retina and prostate. The time to reach the maximum concentration 2 hours. Elimination with feces - 90%, kidneys and lungs.

    Indications:

For oral administration: a deficiency of zinc in the body with violations of anabolic and immunological processes (prevention and treatment); in the complex therapy - hypogonadism, enteropathic acrodermatitis, alopecia, cerebral palsy, liver disease, diabetes mellitus, diffuse connective tissue diseases, long-term glucocorticosteroid therapy (especially at the time of drug withdrawal).

For external and topical application: to accelerate the healing of superficial wounds and ulcers, inflammatory processes of the skin and mucous membranes.

    IV.E10-E14.E14   Diabetes mellitus, unspecified

    IV.E50-E64.E60   Alimentary insufficiency of zinc

    VI.G80-G83.G80   Cerebral palsy

    VII.H10-H13.H10.9   Conjunctivitis, unspecified

    XII.L60-L75.L63   Alopecia areata

    XII.L60-L75.L70   Acne

XIV.N70-N77.N76   Other inflammatory diseases of the vagina and vulva

XIX.T08-T14.T14.1   Open wound of unspecified area of the body

    Contraindications:

    Hypersensitivity, lactation.

    Carefully:

    Pregnancy.

    Pregnancy and lactation:

Recommendations for FDA - Category C (for parenteral forms). The use of the drug in pregnancy is possible only in cases where the intended benefit to the mother exceeds the potential risk to the fetus.

There is no information on the penetration into breast milk. There is no information about any problems with the consumption of normal daily quantities. If you need to use the drug during lactation, you should decide whether to stop breastfeeding (due to lack of experience).

    Dosing and Administration:

Locally. With conjunctivitis - eye drops of 0.1-0.5%, with laryngitis - lubrication or pulverization 0.25-0.5% solution, with urethritis and vaginitis - douching with 0.1-0.5% solution.

Inside. Tablets can not be divided or chewed. For the prevention of hypocinemia - 10-15 mg per day (physiological requirement of the organism in zinc), with a therapeutic purpose - 20-50 mg 2-3 times a day, as emetics - 100-300 mg once. Alopecia for 124-248 mg 3 times a day.

Enteropathic acrodermatitis, nesting alopecia. Adults and children older than 4 years - 124 mg 3 times a day during or after meals, upon improvement - 124 mg twice a day, and then 124 mg per day until the symptoms disappear completely.

Pustular and purulent acne. Inside, for 124-248 mg per day.

    Side effects:

Rarely (at high doses): digestive disorders (dyspepsia, epigastric pain, nausea), secondary hematologic disorders due to zinc-deficient copper deficiency, especially leukopenia (fever, chills, sore throat), neurosy (continued ulceration, mouth and throat ulcers), sideroblastic anemia (unusual fatigue and weakness).

    Allergic reactions.

    Overdose:

Symptoms: fever, lung function disorder, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance in the plasma, lethargy, muscle movement disorders, kidney failure.

    Treatment: symptomatic.

    Interaction:

During the period of systemic use, the use of dairy products should be avoided, since the absorption of zinc salts from the gastrointestinal tract is slowed down; avoid drinking alcohol.

Zinc sulfate reduces the absorption of tetracyclines, copper ions,so you need to separate the reception for at least 2 hours.

Thiazide diuretics increase the excretion of zinc in the urine. Folic acid can in a small degree disrupt the absorption of zinc. Iron preparations in high doses, complexing agents (including penicillamine) significantly reduce the absorption of zinc.

Pharmaceutically incompatible with salts of silver, lead, quinine, ichthyol, citral (forms poorly soluble compounds), with alkaline-reacting substances (forms zinc hydrate), with protargol (coagulated).

    Special instructions:

With prolonged use of zinc preparations, the probability of a copper deficiency in the body should be considered.
