    D.07.X.C.01   Betamethasone in combination with other drugs

    Pharmacodynamics:

    The drug is a combination of betamethasone and salicylic acid. It has antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and keratolytic action.

    The corticosteroid betamethasone dipropionate inhibits the accumulation of leukocytes, the release of lysosomal enzymes and mediators of inflammation, inhibits phagocytosis, reduces vascular-tissue permeability, prevents the formation of inflammatory edema.

    Salicylic acid provides keratolytic, antimicrobial action, removes horny layers and promotes deeper penetration glucocorticosteroid.

    Pharmacokinetics:

    There is no data on the pharmacokinetics of the drug.

    Indications:

    The drug is used for the therapy of subacute and chronic dermatoses sensitive to external corticosteroid therapy accompanied by hyperkeratosis: psoriasis, atopic dermatitis (neurodermatitis), red flat lichen, eczema, dyshidrotic dermatitis, ichthyosis and ichthyosoform changes.

    Contraindications:

    Hypersensitivity to any component of the drug; lupus; viral skin infections; vaccination; perioral dermatitis; pink acne (rosacea).

    Carefully:

    Children's age, prolonged use, application to large areas of the skin.

    Pregnancy and lactation:

    The use of the drug in pregnant women is allowed only in cases where the intended use for the pregnant woman exceeds the possible risk to the fetus. In such cases, the use of the drug should be short and limited to small surfaces of the skin.

    According to the decision of the attending physician, women can use the drug during breastfeeding.In this case, long-term use on the large surface of the skin should be avoided. Do not apply the drug to the skin of the breast before feeding.

    Dosing and Administration:

    The drug is used externally. Apply a thin layer on the inflamed surface 2 times a day, lightly rubbing. In lighter cases, a single use is sufficient.

    Duration of treatment, as a rule, is limited to three weeks. If you need a long course of therapy, it is recommended to use the drug less often, for example, every other day. When treating chronic diseases under the constant supervision of a doctor, treatment should continue for some time after the disappearance of all symptoms in order to avoid relapse of the disease.

    Use of the drug in children under 12 years is conducted under the supervision of the attending physician.

    Side effects:

    Burning sensation, itching, folliculitis, acne, striae, skin atrophy, depigmentation and hypertrichosis.

    Very rarely glucosuria, hypokalemia, increased blood pressure; side effects caused by salicylates: pallor, fatigue, drowsiness, hyperventilation and tachypnea, nausea, vomiting, hearing impairment, confusion.

    In case of side effects it is necessary to consult a doctor.

    If a secondary skin infection develops, adequate antifungal and antibacterial therapy should be used.

    Overdose:

    Provided that the drug is applied to large areas of inflamed skin, and therefore having a greater permeability of the skin, for a long period (more than 3 weeks), with the use of an occlusive dressing, and also with prolonged use in children, it is possible to enhance the absorption of active components and the manifestation systemic effects of betamethasone and salicylic acid.

    In case of an overdose, stop using the drug and contact your doctor.

    Treatment is symptomatic.

    Interaction:

    There were no clinically significant interactions with other drugs.

    Do not use simultaneously with other external means.

    Special instructions:

    The drug should not be applied to the skin near the eyes. It is not recommended long-term use on the face skin due to the possible development of dermatitis by the type of rosacea, perioral dermatitis, atrophy of the skin and acne. Avoid application of the drug in the anogenital area.
