    A.06.A.D.15   Macrogol

    Pharmacodynamics:

Macrogol is an osmotic laxative. The molecule of the active substance of the preparation is a high molecular weight ethylene oxide, which forms hydrogen bonds with water molecules in the lumen of the intestine. Thereby macrogol increases the content of liquid in the chyme, softens its consistency and facilitates the act of defecation, strengthening the peristalsis of the intestine. It has no irritating effect on the intestinal mucosa, does not change the pH of the chyme, restores the evacuation reflex from the intestine, prevents the disturbance of the water-electrolyte balance. Laxative action occurs 24-48 hours after taking the drug.

    Pharmacokinetics:

It is not absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and is not metabolized.
