    Pharmacodynamics:

    Increases the activity of ciliated epithelium, increases the secretion of liquid components of bronchial mucus due to depolymerization of acidic polysaccharides. Increases the volume of sputum, reducing its viscosity and facilitating its evacuation from the respiratory tract.

    Pharmacokinetics:

    After oral administration, it is rapidly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. The maximum concentration in the blood plasma is reached after 25-30 minutes.

    Metabolism in the liver with the formation of the main metabolite - β- (2-methoxyphenoxy) lactic acid.

    The elimination half-life is 1 hour. Elimination by the kidneys.

    Indications:

    It is used as an expectorant for inflammatory diseases of the respiratory system accompanied by cough: with laryngitis, tracheitis, bronchitis, influenza.

    Contraindications:

    Individual intolerance, children up to 3 years.

    Stomach ulcer and duodenal ulcer.

    Pregnancy and lactation:

    Recommendations for FDA - Category B. Applicable in pregnancy and lactation in cases where the expected effect exceeds the possible risk to the fetus and infant.

    Dosing and Administration:

    Children up to 4 years: 60 mg 2-3 times a day;

    4-8 years: 100 mg 2-3 times a day;

    8-14 years: 100-200 mg 2-3 times a day.

    Adults

    Inside for 100-200 mg 3-4 times a day.

    The highest daily dose: 800 mg.

    The highest single dose: 200 mg.

    Side effects:

    Nausea, vomiting.

    Interaction:

    Increases the effect of drugs that depress the central nervous system, as well as ethanol.

    Special instructions:

    It is recommended to take a sufficient amount of liquid during treatment. Reception of guaifenesin is often accompanied by urine staining in pink.

    When treating the drug should refrain from driving the car and working with moving mechanisms.
