Tropicamide - instructions for use, dose, side effects, contraindications

M-holinoblokiruyuschee means, blocks the receptors of the sphincter of the iris and ciliary body, causing short-term mydriasis and paralysis of accommodation. Slightly increases the intraocular pressure.

Mydrias develops in 5-10 minutes and reaches a maximum by the 20-45 minute.The maximum dilatation of the pupil is 1 hour. After 6 hours, the pupil returns to its original size.

Pharmacokinetics:

The percentage of absorption of the active substance entering through the tear ducts into the nose is relatively high (side effects due to systemic action are possible).

Indications:

Tropicamide 0.5%:

1) for diagnostic purposes in the conduct of ophthalmoscopy and the determination of refraction (including with increased sensitivity to other drugs that dilate the pupil);

2) for the prevention of the development of synechia in the complex therapy of inflammatory eye diseases.

Tropicamide 1%:

if necessary paralysis of accommodation in the study of refraction.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity, glaucoma (especially closed-angle), intraocular hypertension.

Carefully:

Pregnancy, lactation, infancy.

Dosing and Administration:

Conjunctively Tropicamide 0,5 %:

-For diagnostic dilatation of the pupil: 1-3 drops for 10 minutes. With a 3-time instillation after 10 minutes, you can carry out ophthalmoscopy.

-For the determination of refraction: 6 times with an interval of 6-12 minutes.

-When applied for medicinal purposes: bury up to 6 times a day.

Tropicamide 1%:

for the effect of cycloplegia in the study of refraction by 1 - 2 drops of solution; instillation is repeated after 5 minutes. If the patient has not been examined within 20-25 minutes, one drop can be added to prolong the mydriatic effect.

Side effects:

Local reactions: allergic reactions, increased intraocular pressure, photophobia, visual acuity reduction.

Systemic side effects: headache, psychotic reactions, tachycardia, lowering of blood pressure, hyperthermia, dry mouth, dysuria, convulsions.

Overdose:

When topical application of an overdose is unlikely.

Interaction:

Adrenostimulators can enhance, and m-cholinostimulants weaken the effect of tropicamide. Tricyclic antidepressants, phenothiazines, amantadine, quinidine, antihistamines increase the likelihood of side effects when interacting with tropicamide.

Special instructions:

The composition of the drug is benzalkonium chloride (preservative), which can be deposited on the surface of soft contact lenses. In this regard, during the period of treatment is not recommended to use soft contact lenses.

Rigid contact lenses should be removed before instillation and wear not earlier than 15 minutes after it.

To reduce the resorptive effect, it is recommended to lightly press a finger on the area of the lacrimal sac for 2-3 minutes after instillation.
