ASA in the dose range from 0.3 to 1.0 g is used to reduce the temperature in diseases such as cold and flu, and to alleviate joint and muscle pain.

ASA inhibits platelet aggregation by blocking the synthesis of thromboxane A2 in thrombocytes.

    Treatment

Hospitalization, lavage, reception of activated charcoal, control of acid-base balance, alkaline diuresis for obtaining pH values of urine within the range of 7.5-8.0 (forced alkaline diuresis is considered achieved, when the concentration of salicylate in the blood is more than 500 mg / l (3.6 mmol / l) in adults and 300 mg / l (2.2 mmol / l) in children, hemodialysis, fluid loss compensation, symptomatic therapy.

    Interaction:

Acetylsalicylic acid increases the toxicity of methotrexate, the effects of narcotic analgesics, other NSAIDs, hypoglycemic agents for ingestion, heparin, indirect anticoagulants, thrombolytic agents - platelet aggregation inhibitors, sulfonamides (including co-trimoxazole), triiodothyronine; reduces - uricosuric drugs (benzbromarone, probenecid), antihypertensive drugs and diuretics (spironolactone, furosemide).

Glucocorticosteroids, alcohol and ethanol containing drugs increase the damaging effect on the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract, increase the risk of developing gastrointestinal bleeding.

Acetylsalicylic acid increases the concentration of digoxin, barbiturates and lithium preparations in blood plasma.

Antatsida, containing magnesium and / or aluminum hydroxide, slow down and worsen the absorption of acetylsalicylic acid.

    Special instructions:

Children under 15 years of age should not be prescribed a drug containing acetylsalicylic acid, because in the case of a viral infection, the risk of developing Reye syndrome increases. Acetylsalicylic acid can cause bronchospasm, an attack of bronchial asthma or other reactions of hypersensitivity. Risk factors are the presence of a history of bronchial asthma, fever, polyps of the nose, chronic bronchopulmonary diseases, cases of an allergy in the history (allergic rhinitis, skin rashes). Acetylsalicylic acid can increase the tendency to bleeding, which is due to its inhibitory effect on platelet aggregation. This should be considered when surgical intervention is necessary, including minor interventions such as tooth extraction. Before surgical intervention, to reduce bleeding during surgery and in the postoperative period, it is necessary to cancel the drug for 5-7 days and inform the doctor.

Acetylsalicylic acid reduces the excretion of uric acid from the body, which can cause an acute attack of gout in predisposed patients.
