Pharmacodynamics:

Laxative. It causes irritation of the receptor apparatus of the intestine, has a direct effect on the intestinal mucosa, enhancing its peristalsis and increasing the secretion of mucus in the large intestine.

The action occurs after 6 hours with oral administration (when taken before bedtime - 8-12 hours) and during the first hour with rectal administration.

Pharmacokinetics:

Not absorbed in the intestine. Is a prodrug, in an alkaline environment occurs hydrolysis with the formation of a metabolite, which has an irritant effect on the mucosa of the gastrointestinal tract.

Indications:

Hypotonic and atonic constipation (including constipation in the elderly, constipation after surgery and childbirth).

Regulation of feces (hemorrhoids, proctitis, anal fissures).

Preparation for surgical operations, instrumental and roentgenological studies.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity, intestinal obstruction, incarcerated hernia, acute inflammatory diseases of the abdominal cavity, peritonitis, bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract, metrorrhagia, cystitis, spastic constipation, acute proctitis, acute hemorrhoids, children under 3 years old, hereditary lactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, syndrome of glucose / galactose malabsorption.

Pregnancy, lactation, hepatic and / or renal failure.

Dosing and Administration:

Inside, at bedtime or 30 minutes before breakfast, adults and children over 14 years of age - 5-15 mg; 8-14 years - 5-10 mg; Children 3-7 years - 5 mg. The tablets are swallowed without chewing and washing with a small amount of water.

Side effects:

Intestinal colic, diarrhea (dehydration, disturbance of water-electrolyte metabolism, muscle weakness, convulsions, lowering of arterial pressure), abdominal pain, flatulence, allergic reactions.

Overdose:

Symptoms: diarrhea, dehydration, disruption of water and electrolyte imbalance, hypokalemia, atony of the colon.

Treatment: symptomatic.

Interaction:

Joint use with antacids can lead to premature dissolution of its shell and irritation of the stomach and duodenum.

It is not recommended to take simultaneously with milk and alkaline mineral water.
