    Pharmacodynamics:

    Has a metabolic, hepatoprotective effect. An indispensable amino acid - the donor of mobile methyl groups, is necessary for the synthesis of choline, the deficiency of which is associated with a disruption in the synthesis of phospholipids from fats and the deposition of neutral fat in the liver.

    Participates in the exchange of sulfur-containing amino acids, in the synthesis of epinephrine, creatinine and other biologically important compounds, activates the action of hormones, vitamins (B12, ascorbic, folic acid), enzymes, proteins, re-methylation reactions, deamination, decarboxylation, and others.

    It is necessary for detoxification of xenobiotics.

    When atherosclerosis reduces the concentration of cholesterol and increases the concentration of blood phospholipids.

    Pharmacokinetics:

    Easily absorbed from the intestine. It is excreted in small quantities in urine.

    Indications:

    In the complex therapy of liver diseases that occur with fatty infiltration of hepatocytes: toxic hepatitis, hepatosis (including alcohol), cirrhosis, liver dystrophy; intoxication.

    Prevention of toxic liver damage by arsenic, chloroform, benzene, alcohol.

    As part of combination therapy: protein deficiency of various origins, atherosclerosis, diabetes mellitus.

    Contraindications:

    Hypersensitivity, severe hepatic insufficiency, hepatic encephalopathy, viral hepatitis, hereditary intolerance to fructose, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrose-isomaltose insufficiency,children's age till 6 years.

    Renal failure (risk of hyperaemia).

    The maximum single dose: adults - 1500 mg (6 tablets), children from 6 years of age and older - 500 mg (2 tablets).

    The maximum daily dose: adults - 6 g (24 tablets), children 6 years and older - 2 g (8 tablets).

    Course - daily for 10 - 30 days or 3 courses for 10 days with 10-day breaks.

    Side effects:

    Allergic reactions, nausea, vomiting (due to unpleasant odor and taste).

    Overdose:

    Symptoms: decrease in arterial pressure, tachycardia, disorientation.

    Treatment: symptomatic.

    Interaction:

    With simultaneous application with levodopa, its effectiveness decreases.

    Special instructions:

    It should be prescribed in balance with other amino acids.

    Unbalanced use of methionine in large doses can have a damaging effect on liver cells and other organs.
