    S.01.G.A.04   Oxymetazoline

    Pharmacodynamics:

    The drug is an adrenomimetic for topical application. Due to activation α1A- and α2Aadrenoreceptors, the drug has a vasoconstrictive effect.

    With intranasal administration, the swelling of the mucous membrane of the upper respiratory tract is reduced. When instilled into the conjunctival sac, it reduces the edema of the conjunctiva.

    Pharmacokinetics:

    The drug is applied topically, the effect manifests itself after 15 minutes and lasts 6-8 hours. Partially subjected to systemic absorption. The half-life is 5-8 days. Excreted mainly in the unchanged form of the kidneys and gastrointestinal tract.

    Indications:

    The inflammation of the nasal sinuses, nasal breathing difficulty in infectious and inflammatory diseases, and edema of conjunctival congestion, evstahiit, inflammation of the nasal sinuses, hay fever.

    Contraindications:
    • Inflammatory processes in the mucous membranes, which are not accompanied by secretion.

    Pregnancy and lactation:

    Category FDA - C. Adequate and well-controlled studies in humans and animals have not been conducted. Carefully! There is no information on the penetration into breast milk. The application is possible after a thorough evaluation of the relationship between use for the mother and the risk to the fetus or the baby.

    Dosing and Administration:

    It is applied locally.With intranasal application - 1-2 drops of 0.025-0.05% solution 2-3 times a day with an interval of 10-12 hours. The course of treatment is 3-5 days. Intraconjunctival: 1-2 drops of 0.025% solution 4 times a day, treatment course - 3-5 days.

    Side effects:

    From the cardiovascular system: arterial hypertension, palpitations.

    From the nervous system: dizziness, increased excitability, sleep disturbance, headache.

    From the viewpoint: mydriasis, retraction of the eyelid, irritation of the conjunctiva and surrounding tissues, paresis of accommodation.

    From the gastrointestinal tract: nausea.

    Local reactions: dryness and burning sensation of the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity, dry mouth or throat, sneezing, "ricochet" swelling of the mucous membrane (increased secretions from the nose or nasal congestion).

    Other: tachyphylaxis, reactive hyperemia of the mucosa and atrophy of the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity (with prolonged use).

    Overdose:

    Symptoms (after a significant overdose or accidental ingestion): pupillary narrowing, nausea, vomiting, cyanosis, fever, tachycardia, arrhythmia, vascular insufficiency, arterial hypertension, respiratory distress, pulmonary edema, cardiac arrest; in addition, there may be mental disorders, as well as oppression of functions CNS, accompanied by drowsiness, a decrease in body temperature, bradycardia, arterial hypotension, stopping breathing and possible development of coma.

    Treatment: gastric lavage, reception of activated charcoal, urgent medical attention, symptomatic therapy.

    Interaction:

    Simultaneous reception with local anesthetics helps slow down their absorption and prolong their action.

    Other vasoconstrictive drugs may potentiate the side effects of oxymetazoline.

    With simultaneous administration with MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants, an increase in blood pressure is possible.

    Special instructions:

    In the recommended dosage without consulting a doctor, you can use no more than 3 days. Avoid getting the drug intended for intranasal administration in the eyes.

    Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and manage mechanisms.

    It is possible to reduce the reaction speed, it is not recommended to drive a car or perform work associated with increased concentration of attention.
