Natamycin is an antifungal polyene antibiotic from the macrolide group, which has a wide spectrum of action. It has a fungicidal effect. It binds to sterols of cell membranes, violating their integrity and function, which leads to the death of microorganisms.
It is active against most pathogenic yeast-like fungi (especially Candida albicans), yeast (Torulopsis and Rhodotorula), as well as other pathogenic fungi (Aspergillus, Penicillium.). Less active against dermatophytes (Trichophyton, Microsporum, Epidermophyton). Does not affect in vitro on Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
