Pharmacodynamics:

Decoction of the buckthorn bark has a laxative effect due to the presence of antraglycosides, which irritate the receptors of the mucous membrane of the large intestine.The laxative effect usually occurs 8-12 hours after taking the drug.

Indications:Chronic constipation.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the drug; constipation of neurogenic and endocrine origin, spastic constipation, intestinal obstruction, acute abdominal syndrome, appendicitis, enteritis, colitis, metrorrhagia, acute febrile conditions; pregnancy, the period of breastfeeding, children under 12 years.

Dosing and Administration:

About 12 g (2 tablespoons) of buckthorn bark are placed in enameled dishes, pour 200 ml (1 glass) of hot boiled water, cover with a lid, heat in a boiling water bath with frequent stirring for 30 minutes, cool at room temperature for 10 minutes, filter, remaining raw materials squeeze out. The volume of the resulting broth is brought to 200 ml with boiled water.

Decoction is taken internally in warm water by adults and children over 12 years of age by 1/2 cups a night and in the morning. The course of treatment is 1-2 weeks.

It is recommended to stir the broth before use.

Side effects:

Possible allergic reactions (skin rash), a feeling of discomfort in the abdomen (flatulence, spastic pain, nausea).

Overdose:

When possible overdose colicky abdominal pain, tenesmus, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. Treatment: symptomatic.

Special instructions:

With prolonged use of the drug buckthorn can develop addiction and weakening or lack of laxative effect, so it is advisable to alternate them with other laxatives. It is possible to stain the urine yellow, not requiring withdrawal of the drug. It is not recommended to take the product for a long time without consulting a doctor.
