Polyene antifungal antibiotic. Has antifungal (fungistatic and fungicidal) activity. It has a large number of double bonds in the structure, which cause high tropicity of the substance to the sterol formations of the cytoplasmic membrane of the fungi. Because of this, the molecule is embedded in the cell membrane with the formation of a number of channels that promote uncontrolled transport of water, electrolytes and non-electrolytes.The cell loses its resistance to external osmotic forces and is lysed. Resistance develops very slowly.
Active with yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida and aspergilla. It is fungistatic, and in large doses - fungicidal action. Tolerance to nystatine sensitive fungi develops very slowly.
