    Pharmacodynamics:

    It suppresses the respiratory chain and the cycle of tricarboxylic acids, inhibits the biochemical processes of respiration of microorganisms, inhibits the synthesis of nucleic acids, as a result of which their shells or cytoplasmic membranes are destroyed.

    It exhibits bacteriostatic activity against gram-positive cocci: Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Gram-negative rods: Escherichia, Salmonella, Shigella, Proteus, Klebsiella, Enterobacter, protozoa - Lamblia.

    The causative agents of dysentery, typhoid fever and paratyphoid are most susceptible to furazolidone.

    Pharmacokinetics:

    After oral administration, it is poorly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and creates high concentrations in the lumen of the intestine.

    Elimination with feces, in a small amount, up to 5% - by the kidneys, staining the urine in brown.

    Indications:

    It is used for treatment intestinal infections of bacterial and protozoal etiology: dysentery, paratyphoid, giardiasis, food toxic infections. Used as a local remedy for infected wounds and burns.

    Contraindications:

    With giardiasis: inside at 10 mg / kg per day in 3-4 divided doses.

    Adults

    Inside after a meal, 100-150 mg 4 times a day.

    With giardiasis - 100 mg 4 times a day.

    The highest daily dose: 800 mg.

    The highest single dose: 200 mg.

    Side effects:

    Central and peripheral nervous system: dizziness, headache, with prolonged use - peripheral neuritis.

    Digestive system: anorexia, nausea, vomiting.

    Dermatological reactions: itching, papular rashes.

    Allergic reactions.

    Overdose:

    Neurotoxic reactions: ataxia, tremor.

    Treatment is symptomatic.

    Interaction:

    Tetracycline and aminoglycosides increase antimicrobial activity.

    With simultaneous use with sulfonamides, ristomycin, chloramphenicol, the risk of oppression of hematopoiesis increases.

    Special instructions:

    It is necessary to combine the drug with prolonged use with vitamins of group B (in order to prevent the development of polyneuritis).

    Simultaneous use with ethanol can cause a disulfiram-like reaction.
