Tetracycline - instructions for use, dose, side effects, contraindications

Excipients: lanolin anhydrous - 400.0 mg, Vaseline - up to 1 g. Note: the amount of tetracycline for the drug with activity 975 μg / mg - 10,256 mg. In the case of greater activity of the drug, it is accordingly reduced.

Description:Ointment is yellowish or yellowish-brown in color.

Pharmacodynamics:

Bacteriostatic antibiotic from the group of tetracyclines. It disrupts the formation of a complex between the transport RNA and the ribosome, which leads to suppression of protein synthesis.

Active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms - Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus epidemicus (Streptococcus pyogenes), Streptococcus pneumoniae (Diplococcus pneumoniae), Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Haemophilus influenzae, Haemophilus ducreyi, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Francisella tularensis (Pasteurella pestis), Escherichia coli, Bacillus anthracis, and Chlamydia trachomatis.

To tetracycline, microorganisms are stable: Pseudomonas aeroginosa, Proteus spp., Ser- ratia spp., most strains Bacteroides spp. and fungi, viruses, group A beta-hemolytic streptococci (including 44% of strains Streptococcus pyogenes and 74% of strains Streptococcus faecalis).

Pharmacokinetics:

With topical application, systemic absorption is low. If the corneal epithelium is damaged, the effective concentration of tetracycline in the moisture of the anterior chamber is reached 30 minutes after application.

Indications:

Bacterial (including chlamydial) eye infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to tetracycline - blepharitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, keratitis, keratoconjunctivitis, meibomite (barley), trachoma.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, pregnancy, lactation and children under 8 years.

Dosing and Administration:

Locally.

A strip of ointment from 0.5 to 1 cm is placed behind the lower eyelid:

- blepharitis, blepharoconjunctivitis: 3-4 times a day for 5-7 days;

- keratitis, keratoconjunctivitis: 2-3 times a day for 5-7 days. If the condition does not improve within 3-5 days, consult a doctor;

- meibomite (barley): the night before the disappearance of the symptoms of inflammation;

- trachoma: every 2-4 hours or more often within 1-2 weeks. When the inflammatory process stops, the drug is used 2-3 times a day. The duration of the course of treatment of trachoma should not exceed 1 -2 months.

Side effects:Allergic reactions, hyperemia and edema of the eyelids, transient blurring of vision.

Overdose:

When using the drug, an overdose is unlikely.

Interaction:Not described.

Special instructions:

Effect on the ability to drive transp. cf. and fur:After the application of the ointment, a transient blurring of vision is possible, therefore during the period of treatment it is not recommended to drive vehicles and work with complex equipment until it is restored.

Form release / dosage:Eye ointment 1% in aluminum tubes of 3 g and 10 g. Each tube together with the instruction for use is placed in a pack of cardboard.
