    Composition:

    Laminaria thallus (sea kale).

    Characteristic

    The thallus of the kelp contains high-molecular polysaccharides (laminaria), iodide and bromide salts, mannitol, alginic acid, alginates (calcium salts of alginic acids), ascorbic acid, macro- and microelements and other biologically active substances.

    Description:

    Pieces of thallus of various shapes passing through a sieve with apertures 3 mm in size. The color is dark gray with a greenish tinge; Outside, the pieces of thallus are covered with a white coating of salts. The odor is peculiar. The taste is salty.

    Pharmacodynamics:

    Laxative effect is due to the ability of the drug to swell and, increasing in volume, cause irritation of receptors of the intestinal mucosa. In connection with the content of iodine salts, the drug also has thyroid and hypolipidemic effects.

    Indications:Chronic atonic constipation, including in patients with hyperlipidemia.
    Contraindications:

    Hypersensitivity to the drug (including iodine), multinodular goiter, thyrotoxicosis of various genesis, nephritis, nephrosis, hemorrhagic diathesis, furunculosis, acne, chronic pyoderma, intestinal obstruction, acute abdominal syndrome, inflammatory processes in the abdominal cavity (in including appendicitis), acute feverish conditions, pregnancy, the period of breastfeeding, children under 12 years.

    Dosing and Administration:

    Adults and children over 12 years of age take 1 / 2-1 teaspoon 1 time per day with water. The course of treatment is 15-30 days.

    Side effects:

    Allergic reactions (skin itching, hyperemia of the skin); heartburn, flatulence, diarrhea; with prolonged use - the phenomenon of iodism (including rhinitis, Quincke's edema, salivation, lacrimation, acne).

    Overdose:

    To date, cases of overdose have not been reported.

    Effect on the ability to drive transp. cf. and fur:

    Admission thallus does not affect the management of vehicles and the employment of potentially hazardous activities that require increased concentration and speed of psychomotor reactions.
