    Pharmacodynamics:

    Reflex stimulation of the respiratory center through the receptors of the upper respiratory tract (end of the trigeminal nerve), in high concentrations - a reflex stop of respiration.

    Pharmacological effects

    Analeptic. Antiseptic. Emetic (in small concentrations). Burning (in high concentrations).

    Pharmacokinetics:

    It is rapidly excreted in any mode of administration, mainly by the lungs and bronchial glands

    Indications:

    Inhalation use: as an emergency aid for the initiation of breathing and excretion of patients from syncope.

    Inside: as an expectorant (as part of a combination drug).

    Outwardly: in the form of lotions, for washing hands in surgical practice.

    Dosing and Administration:

    Fainting states - for the initiation of breathing and removal of patients from syncope - inhalation: gently bring a small piece of cotton wool or gauze, moistened with ammonia, to the nasal aperture (by 0.5-1 s) or open the ampoule with a braid (when the tip of the ampoule breaks off the cotton- the gauze braid is impregnated with a solution). Etching with ethanol. Stimulation of vomiting - inside (as an emetic) for 5-10 drops per 100 ml of water.

    Hand disinfection; in the surgical practice used for washing hands by the method of SI. Spasokukotsky and I.G. Kochergina (to prepare a solution of 25 ml of ammonia dissolve in 5 liters of warm boiled water). Neutralization of acid toxins with insect and snake bites - locally in the form of lotions.

    Side effects:

    Inhalation of ammonia: coughing, sneezing, lacrimation; in high concentrations - pulmonary edema, conjunctival edema, temporary blindness. Asphyxia - due to edema and / or spasm of the epiglottis; reflex stop of breath.

    In contact with the skin or mucous membranes of the eyes, burns or irritation.Edema of the conjunctiva, corneal damage, acute glaucoma, late complications: cataracts, atrophy of the iris, throat. Ingestion: pain in the mouth, throat, gastrointestinal tract, hypersalivation, cough, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, headache, nausea, shock. Perforation of the esophagus and / or stomach - as a result of a burn. Strictures, especially the esophagus, - in a week or months after the burn. Edema of the respiratory tract, pneumonitis may not appear immediately.

    Overdose:

    Suffocation, loss of consciousness. Treatment of side effects: in case of contact with eyes, rinse them thoroughly with water for 20 minutes; with external contact - remove contaminated clothing, wash the skin with plenty of water. Do not rub the affected area, apply ointment. If administered orally, give the patient a glass of water or milk, assess the degree of burn of the mucous membrane of the mouth and throat.

    Interaction:

    Neutralizes acids.

    Special instructions:

    Colorless gas with a sharp, irritating odor. Apply 10% aqueous solution (ammonia), which is a colorless volatile liquid with a sharp characteristic odor and a strong alkaline reaction.
