It has antioxidant and cytoprotective effect, in this connection it shows general strengthening properties. Pharmacological action is due to the presence in the sea-buckthorn oil of carotene (provitamin A), tocopherol (vitamin E) and other lipophilic substances. Due to the presence of fat-soluble bioantioxidants reduces free radical processes and protects against damage to the cell membranes; lowers the level of cholesterol and lipids in the blood, inhibits the activity of gastric proteases.
