    A.06.A.X.01   Glycerol

    Pharmacodynamics:

    Glycerol - laxative drug, used to soften the stool.

    The drug is used in the form of rectal suppositories, lubricates and softens the stool, thereby facilitating their passage through the colon. Irritating effect on the walls of the intestinal mucosa, stimulates the motor in a reflex way. Facilitates the process of defecation.

    With external application softens the skin, providing dermatoprotective action.

    Pharmacokinetics:The drug is well absorbed through the mucosa of the rectum. Active metabolism occurs in the liver. Excreted by the kidneys, about 7-14% - unchanged.
    Indications:

    Treatment of constipation of various etiologies when it is impossible to take laxatives through the mouth.

    Prevention of constipation and easing of defecation in conditions when tension is contraindicated (acute hemorrhoids, anal fissures, perianal abscess, anorectal stenosis, myocardial infarction transferred).

    Contraindications:
    • Hypersensitivity to glycerol or other components of the drug
    • Intestinal obstruction
    • Appendicitis
    • Hemorrhoids in the stage of exacerbation
    • Cracks in the anus
    • Inflammatory bowel disease
    • Tumors of the rectum
    • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
    • Bleeding
    • Diarrhea
    • Hemorrhagic rectocolitis
    • Pain in the abdomen with an unidentified diagnosis
    • Children under 5 years
    Carefully:
    • Renal insufficiency
    • Allergic reactions
    • Nausea, vomiting
    Pregnancy and lactation:

    Use during pregnancy or lactation is only possible if the expected benefit to the mother exceeds the potential risk to the fetus.

    Dosing and Administration:

    The drug is administered rectally, 15-20 minutes after breakfast, once a day. Adults, if necessary, increase the dose to 2 suppositories per day. After the introduction of the suppository after 5-10 minutes, defecation occurs. The remains of the suppository are excreted with feces.

    Children from 5 to 12 years are prescribed 1 suppository containing 1405 mg of glycerol, adults and children from 12 years of age are prescribed 1 suppository containing 2100 mg of glycerol.

    Side effects:
    • Allergic reactions
    • Local irritating reactions (itching, burning in the anus)
    • Spastic pain in the intestine
    • Irritation of the rectum
    • Violation of the physiological process of defecation (with prolonged use)
    Overdose:

    Symptoms: frequent loose stools.

    Treatment: cancellation of the drug.

    No data.

    Special instructions:

    The drug is not used for more than a week. Treatment is stopped after the restoration of normal intestinal peristalsis.

    Before administering the suppository and after using it, wash hands thoroughly.

    The suppository should not be lubricated with mineral liquid or solid oils before administration.
