Pharmacodynamics:

Active substance - ketoconazole, an imidazole-dioxolane derivative. It has a fungicidal and fungostatic effect against dermatophytes (Trichophyton spp., Epidermophyton floccosum, Microsporum spp.) and yeast (Candida spp., Pityrosporum spp.). The mechanism of action is to inhibit the biosynthesis of ergosterol and change the lipid composition of the fungal membrane.

The drug is active against staphylococci and streptococci.

Pharmacokinetics:

Systemic absorption with intravaginal application is insignificant.

Indications:

Treatment of acute and chronic recurrent vaginal candidiasis.

Prevention of fungal infections of the vagina at a reduced resistance of the organism and during treatment with antibacterial agents and other drugs that violate the normal microflora of the vagina.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Pregnancy (first trimester).

Carefully:

Pregnancy (II-III trimester), lactation, children under 12 years.

Dosing and Administration:

Preliminarily releasing the suppository from the contour pack, insert it deep into the vagina in the supine position on 1 suppository per day for 3-5 days depending on the course of the disease. In chronic candidiasis, 1 suppository is used for 10 days.

Side effects:

Hyperemia and irritation of the vaginal mucosa, itching of the vagina.

Allergic reactions: skin rash, hives.

Interaction:

In applying Livarola® vaginal suppositories 400mg negative interactions with other drugs are unknown and are not to be expected, since low resorption ability of ketoconazole.

Special instructions:

In rare cases, allergic reactions (hyperemia of the penis) are possible in the sexual partner.

Simultaneous treatment of the sexual partner is recommended to reduce the risk of recurrence of the disease.
