Transparent oily liquid from light yellow to dark yellow without rancid smell.

Pharmacotherapeutic group:Vitamin
ATX: & nbsp

A.11.H.A.03   Tocopherol (vitamin E)

Pharmacodynamics:

Fat-soluble vitamin is an antioxidant. It is able to bind free radicals and protects the cellular membranes of body tissues from lipid peroxidation, participates in the biosynthesis of gemma and proteins, cell proliferation, tissue respiration and other important processes of cellular metabolism.

Pharmacokinetics:

Absorption from 12-finger intestines (requires the presence of bile salts, fats, normal pancreatic function) - 50-80%. It binds to beta-lipoproteins of blood. If there is a violation of protein metabolism, transport is difficult. TCmax - 4 hours. It is deposited in all organs and tissues, especially in adipose tissue. Penetrates through the placenta in insufficient quantities. Penetrates into breast milk.

Metabolised in the liver to derivatives that have a quinone structure. It is excreted with bile - more than 90% (some amount is again absorbed and subjected to enterohepatic circulation),kidneys - 6% (in the form of glucuronides of tocopheronic acid and its gamma-lactone).

It is withdrawn slowly, especially in premature and newborns.

Indications:

Hypovitaminosis E and increased need for vitamin E (including newborns, young children with insufficient intake of vitamin E with food, during pregnancy)

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, cardiosclerosis, myocardial infarction.

Carefully:

Hypoprothrombinemia, increased risk of thromboembolism, severe coronary artery atherosclerosis.

Dosing and Administration:

Inside. Prevention of hypovitaminosis E.

Adults and children from 10 years: men - 10 mg / day, women - 8 mg / day, pregnant - 10 mg / day, nursing mothers - 11-12 mg / day; children under 3 years of age - 3-6 mg / day, 3-10 years - 7 mg / day. Doses and duration of treatment of hypovitaminosis E are individual and depend on the severity of the condition.

It should be borne in mind that one drop of a solution with a concentration of 50, 100 and 300 mg / ml from the eye pipette contains about 1, 2 and 6.5 mg of alpha-tocopherol acetate, respectively.

Side effects:

Allergic reactions.

Overdose:

Symptoms of overdose: when taken for a long period at doses of 400-800 units / day (1 mg = 1.21 ME) - blurred vision, dizziness, headache, nausea, fatigue, diarrhea, gastralgia, asthenia; when taking more than 800 units / day for a long period - an increased risk of bleeding in patients with hypovitaminosis K, a metabolic disorder of thyroid hormones, a disorder of sexual function, thrombophlebitis, thromboembolism.

Treatment: symptomatic, withdrawal of the drug, the appointment of glucocorticosteroid drugs.

Interaction:

When combined, it facilitates absorption, storage in the liver, assimilation and reduces the toxicity of vitamin A. The administration of vitamin E in high doses can cause vitamin A deficiency in the body. Reduces toxicity of the vitamin D. Simultaneous application of vitamin E at a dose of 400 units / day with anticoagulants (coumarin and indanedione derivatives) increases the risk of hypoprothrombinemia and bleeding. Kolestyramine, colestipol, mineral oils reduce the absorption of vitamin E. High doses of iron increase oxidative processes in the body, which increases the need for vitamin E.

Special instructions:

The upper permissible level of consumption is 300 mg / day.

Tocopherols are found in green parts of plants, especially in young sprouts of cereals, large amounts of tocopherols are found in vegetable oils (sunflower, cottonseed, corn, peanut, soybean, sea buckthorn). Some of their amount is contained in meat, fat, eggs, milk.

It should be borne in mind that in newborns with low body weight, hypovitaminosis E may occur due to low permeability of the placenta (fetal blood contains only 20-30% of vitamin E from its concentration in the mother's blood).

A diet with an increased content of selenium and sulfur-containing amino acids reduces the need for vitamin E.
