Description:

Pharmacodynamics:

Anthelminthic drug, causes neuromuscular blockade of helminths sensitive to it and ensures their expulsion without stimulation and stimulation of migration of affected worms. In the lumen of the intestine is effective against mature and immature sensitive helminths of both sexes.

Highly effective against infestations caused by pinworms (Enterobius vermicularis), ascaris (Ascaris lumbricoides), hookworms (Ankylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus).

Pharmacokinetics:

Virtually not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. After taking a single dose of 12.5 mg / kg, the concentration in the plasma is 0.05-0.13 μg / ml for 1 -3 hours. Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to pyrantel and other components of the drug; myasthenia gravis; liver failure; the period of breastfeeding.

Pregnancy and lactation:

Be wary about prescribing the drug during pregnancy, if the intended benefit to the mother exceeds the potential risk to the fetus.

Dosing and Administration:

Suspension is intended for children weighing more than 12 kg.

Pinworms and roundworms:

In the treatment of enterobiasis and ascariasis, the drug is prescribed once in the recommended dose.

The usual dosage is 12.5 mg / kg of body weight once, that is:

children over 6 years of age: 1 scoop of suspension per 10 kg of weight once;
adults weighing less than 75 kg: 6 measuring spoons once;
adults weighing more than 75 kg: 8 measuring spoons of the suspension once.

To prevent re-infection, it is recommended to repeat the drug after 3 weeks.

Hookworms:

In endemic areas, in case of Necator americanus infection or in case of severe infection with Ankylostoma duodenale, the dosage is 25 mg / kg / day (for one or two doses) for two to three days, that is:

children: 250 mg per 10 kg of body weight daily
adults weighing less than 75 kg: 1.5 g per day
adults weighing more than 75 kg: 2 g per day.

In case of infection of Ankylostoma duodenale outside the endemic zones (it proceeds more easily), a dose of 12.5 mg / kg is administered in one dose.

Side effects:

From the gastrointestinal tract: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea and loss of appetite are rare (most often these symptoms are explained by the death of helminths);

Allergic reactions - Itching, hives, exanthema;

A slight transient increase in the activity of "liver" transaminases;

Headache, dizziness, fatigue, drowsiness or insomnia, hearing loss, hallucinations, confusion, paresthesia, hyperthermia.

Overdose:

Even severe overdose does not cause signs of serious intoxication. There is no specific antidote. It is recommended to wash the stomach and consult a doctor.

Interaction:

It is not recommended simultaneous use of levamisole, piperazine. Increases the concentration of theophylline in plasma.

In the case of existing liver disease, the doctor must be warned.
