Pharmacodynamics:

Anthelminthic drug, causes neuromuscular blockade of sensitive helminths and ensures their expulsion, without stimulation and stimulation of migration of affected worms. In the lumen of the intestine is effective against mature and immature sensitive helminths of both sexes.

Highly effective against infestations caused by pinworms (Enterobius vermicularis), ascaris (Ascaris lumbricoides), hookworms (Ankylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus).

Pharmacokinetics:Virtually not absorbed from the digestive tract. After taking a single dose of 12.5 mg / kg, the concentration in the plasma is 0.05-0.13 μg / ml for 1-3 hours. It is partially metabolized in the liver to N-methyl-1,3propane diamine. Excretion through the intestine - about 93% unchanged, 7% - kidneys in the unchanged form or in the form of a metabolite.

Indications:Askaridoz, enterobiosis (infection with pinworms), hookworm.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to pyrantel and other components of the drug; myasthenia gravis; liver failure.

Pregnancy and lactation:

Dosing and Administration:

Inside. Tablets are for adults and children over 6 years old.

Helmintox can be taken at any time of the day, without prior intake of laxatives, not necessarily on an empty stomach.

Pinworms and ascarids: In the treatment of enterobiasis and ascariasis, the drug is prescribed once in the recommended dose.

The usual dosage is 12.5 mg / kg of body weight once, that is:

children under 6 years of age: 1 scoop of suspension per 10 kg of weight once;
children over 6 years of age: 1 scoop of suspension for 10 kg of weight or 1 tablet of 125 mg per 10 kg of weight once;
adults weighing less than 75 kg: 6 measuring spoons or 6 tablets of 125 mg, or 3 tablets of 250 mg once;
adults weighing more than 75 kg: 8 measuring spoons of a suspension or 8 tablets of 125 mg, or 4 tablets of 250 mg once.

To prevent re-infection, it is recommended to repeat the drug after 3 weeks.

Hookworms: In endemic areas, in case of Necator americanus infection or in case of severe infection with Ankylostoma duodenale, the dosage is 25 mg / kg / day (for one or two doses) for two to three days, that is:

children: 250 mg per 10 kg of body weight daily
adults weighing less than 75 kg: 1.5 g per day
adults weighing more than 75 kg: 2 g per day.

In case of infection of Ankylostoma duodenale outside the endemic zones (it proceeds more easily), a dose of 12.5 mg / kg is administered in one dose.

Side effects:

From the gastrointestinal tract: Sometimes nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea and loss of appetite are noted (most often these symptoms are explained by the death of helminths);

Allergic reactions - Itching, hives, exanthema;

A slight transient increase in the activity of "liver" transaminases;

Headache, dizziness, fatigue, drowsiness or insomnia, hearing loss, hallucinations, confusion, paresthesia, hyperthermia.

Overdose:

Even severe overdose does not cause signs of serious intoxication. There is no specific antidote. It is recommended to wash the stomach and consult a doctor.

Interaction:

It is not recommended simultaneous administration of levamisole, piperazine.Increases the concentration of theophylline in plasma.

Special instructions:

In the case of existing liver disease, the doctor must be warned.

To avoid re-infection, you must strictly follow the rules of hygiene: wash your hands, cut and clean your nails, do not allow combing the perineum, change bed and underwear daily. At the same time, treatment of all family members is recommended. Infection often may not show any symptoms.
