    Composition:

    Each tablet contains:

    Active substance: pyrantel pamoate 725 mg (equivalent to 250 mg base pyrantel) Excipients: starch, gelatin, acacia gum, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, propylparahydroxybenzoate, sodium carboxymethyl starch, talc, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide colloid (aerosil).

    Pharmacodynamics:

    Anthelminthic drug, causes neuromuscular blockade of helminths sensitive to it and ensures their expulsion without stimulation and stimulation of migration of affected worms. In the lumen of the intestine is effective against mature and immature forms of sensitive helminths of both sexes.

    Pirantel is highly effective against infestations caused by pinworms (Enterobius vermicularis), ascaris (Ascaris lumbricoides), hookworms (Ancylostoma doudenale and Necator americanus), against the causative agents of trichocephalosis (Trichostrongylus orientalis and Trichostrongylus colubriformis).

    Moderately active against the whipworm (Trichirus frischiura).

    Pharmacokinetics:

    Pyrantel is practically not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract (GIT).

    After taking a single dose of 10 mg / kg body weight, the concentration of the drug in the blood plasma is 0.005-0.13 μg / ml for 1-3 hours. Metabolized partially in the liver before Nmethyl-1,3-propanediamine.

    It is excreted through the intestine - about 93% unchanged, 7% - by the kidneys in the unchanged form or in the form of a metabolite.

    There are no data on the penetration of the drug through the placenta and into the mother's milk, as well as the distribution of the drug in the tissues and body fluids (theoretically, the resorption of the drug is minimal).

    Dosing and Administration:

    With ascariasis and enterobiasis, with mixed invasions these helminths - inside, once, after breakfast at the rate of 10 mg / kg.

    Depending on the age and weight of the patient, the following dosages are recommended: Adults and children over 12 years of age - 750 mg, with a body weight of more than 75 kg - 1 g.

    Children from 6 months. up to 2 years -125 mg, 2-6 years-250 mg, 6-12 years-500 mg.

    To avoid self-invasion, it is possible to repeat the course after 3 weeks. after the first reception.

    In the case where infection is detected only by the human nematode, Pirantele can be administered at the lowest dose of 5 mg / kg once.

    With ankylostomiasis, a combination of non-carotenosis with ascariasis or other combined helminthic lesions, appoint 10 mg / kg / day for 3 days.

    When massive invasions of Necator americanus are recommended for 2 days - 20 mg / kg / day.

    The tablet should be chewed before swallowing.

    Side effects:

    Side effects are rare, they are short-lived and disappear after discontinuation of treatment.

    From the gastrointestinal tract and liver: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pain and spasms in the stomach, decreased appetite, rarely - increased activity of "liver" transaminases.

    From the nervous system: rarely - headache, dizziness, drowsiness or insomnia, weakness; in isolated cases - hearing impairment, hallucinations, confusion, paresthesia (the relationship of these symptoms with taking the drug is not proven).

    Other: skin rash, hives, fever.

    Overdose:

    Cases of overdose are not described.

    In case of an overdose, symptomatic treatment should be given.

    Interaction:

    Do not administer simultaneously with piperazine (attenuation).

    Increases the concentration of theophylline in the blood plasma.

    Special instructions:

    After taking Pirantel, a laxative is not prescribed.

    When enterobiosis should be a simultaneous treatment of all living together.

    After 14 days after treatment, it is necessary to conduct control parasitological studies.

    More effective in the treatment of patients infected with 12-finger hookworm, than American hookworm.

    In the presence of helminthic invasion, it is recommended that one of the members of the family or a group of closely related persons should treat all contact persons.
