    Pharmacodynamics:

    The pharmacological action is anthelmintic.

    In sensitive helminths it blocks neuromuscular transmission as a type of depolarizing muscle relaxants, causes persistent depolarization and spastic paralysis of the musculature, ensures the expulsion of worms from the body.

    Highly active against infections caused by pinworms (Enterobius vermicularis), ascarids (Ascaris Lumbricoides), hookworms (Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus). It is active against Trichostrongulus orientalis, Trichostrongulus colubriformis.Effective with enterobiasis, ankylostomiasis, non-catarosis, trichocephalosis (to a lesser extent); acts on both sexually mature and immature individuals of both sexes; does not affect the larvae in the migration stage.

    Pharmacokinetics:

    Poorly absorbed from the digestive tract. After taking a single dose of 10 mg / kg, the plasma concentration is 0.005-0.13 μg / ml for 1-3 hours. Absorbed pirantele partially metabolized in the liver to N-methyl-1,3-propanediamine. Output is unchanged through the intestine (about 93%), 7% is excreted by the kidneys unchanged or in the form of a metabolite.

    Indications:Ascaridosis, enterobiasis, hookworm, non-catarrh, trichocephalus.

    Contraindications:Pregnancy, hypersensitivity to pyrantel, myasthenia gravis (treatment period).
    Carefully:

    In case of existing liver disease, the doctor should be informed.

    Be wary appoint children under 6 months.

    Pregnancy and lactation:Category FDA is not defined. Adequate and well-controlled studies in humans have not been conducted. Pirantele contraindicated in pregnancy. For the duration of treatment, breastfeeding should be discontinued (pirantele penetrates into breast milk).
    Dosing and Administration:

    Inside. The dose and the frequency of reception are set individually, depending on the indications, age and body weight of the patient.

    With ascariasis and enterobiosis appoint once for 10 mg / kg: adults and children over 12 years - 750 mg (with a body weight of more than 75 kg - 1 g); children under 12 years - depending on age. To avoid self-invasion, it is recommended to repeat the course 3 weeks after the first dose.

    With ankylostomiasis - 10 mg / kg in 1 dose for 3 days. For non-carobidosis (severe forms) - 20 mg / kg per day for 2 days.

    Side effects:

    From the side nervous system and sense organs: headache, dizziness, drowsiness or insomnia, weakness; in some cases - hearing impairment, hallucinations, confusion, paresthesia.

    From the side organs of the digestive tract: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, anorexia, increased hepatic transaminase activity.

    Allergic reactions: itching, hives, exanthema.

    Overdose:Treatment: gastric lavage. There is no specific antidote.
    Interaction:

    It is not recommended simultaneous administration with levamisole and piperazine. Pirantele increases the concentration of theophylline in plasma.

    Special instructions:

    After taking pyrantel, a laxative is not prescribed.

    When enterobiosis should be conducted simultaneous treatment of all living together (infection often occurs asymptomatically). After completing the course, a control study of feces for the presence of helminth eggs is necessary.

    To prevent re-infection, you must strictly observe the rules of hygiene (wash your hands, cut and clean your nails, do not allow combing the perineum, change bed and underwear daily).
