    Pharmacodynamics:

    The iodine preparation has an antiseptic effect.

    Indications:

    Inflammatory diseases of the mucous membranes, pharynx and larynx.

    Contraindications:

    Hypersensitivity to iodine.

    Severe liver and kidney disease.

    Carefully:

    Hyperthyroidism, herpetiform dermatitis, pregnancy, lactation, children's age (up to 12 years)

    Dosing and Administration:

    Locally, mainly for lubricating the mucous membrane of the pharynx, larynx.

    Side effects:

    Allergic reactions.

    In the case of long-term use of iodine preparations and hypersensitivity to them, the phenomena of iodism (rhinitis, urticaria, Quincke's edema, salivation, lacrimation, acne) are possible.

    Overdose:

    Symptoms: irritation of the upper respiratory tract (burn, laryngo-, bronchospasm); when ingested - irritation of the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract, hemolysis, hemoglobinuria; lethal dose - about 3 g.

    Treatment: gastric lavage with a 0.5% sodium thiosulfate solution, sodium bicarbonate solutions, intravenous - sodium thiosulfate 30% to 300 ml.

    Interaction:

    Iodine is inactivated by sodium thiosulfate.

    Contained in the composition iodine oxidizes metals, which can lead to damage to metal tools and surfaces.

    Pharmaceutically incompatible with essential oils, ammonia solutions.

    Alkaline or acidic medium, the presence of fat, pus, blood weaken antiseptic activity.

    In case of ingestion, the effect of drugs suppressing the thyroid function may decrease, and the thyroid function may change.

    Iodine preparations can enhance the irritating effect of certain drugs (including acetylsalicylic acid) on the mucosa of the gastrointestinal tract.

    Special instructions:

    Iodine penetrates into breast milk and can potentially affect the function of the thyroid gland in children who are breastfeeding.

    Sunlight and temperatures above 40 ° C accelerate the decay of active iodine.
