    Pharmacodynamics:

The main active substance is molecular iodine, which has an antiseptic and local irritant effect. Has bactericidal action against gram-negative and gram-positive flora, as well as pathogenic fungi and yeast; Staphylococcus is more stable, but with prolonged use of the drug in 80% of cases, staphylococcal flora is suppressed; Pseudomonas aeruginosa is resistant to the action of the drug. When applied to large surfaces of mucous membranes iodine has a resorptive effect: it actively affects the metabolism, enhances the processes of dissimilation, participates in the synthesis of T3 and T4, has a proteolytic effect.

Included in the potassium iodide improves the dissolution of iodine in water, and glycerol has a softening effect.

    The drug is low toxicity.

    Pharmacokinetics:

Resorption of iodine through the skin and mucous membranes of the mouth is insignificant. Upon contact with mucous membranes, it is converted to iodides by 30%. If swallowed accidentally iodine wouldStraw is sucked. The absorbed part penetrates well into the organs and tissues (including the tissues of the thyroid gland). It is excreted mainly by the kidneys, to a lesser extent by the intestines and with sweat. Penetrates into breast milk.

Indications:Inflammatory diseases of the mucous membranes of the pharynx and larynx.

Treatment: washing the stomach with 0.5% sodium thiosulfate solution, sodium bicarbonate solutions, intravenously sodium thiosulfate 30% to 300 ml.
    Interaction:

Pharmaceutically incompatible with essential oils, solutions of ammonia, white sedimentary mercury.

Alkalinity or acidity of media, the presence of fat, pus, blood weaken antiseptic activity.

    Iodine inactivated by sodium thiosulfate.

In case of ingestion of the drug inside may decrease the effect of drugs that suppress the function of the thyroid gland, and also the parameters of the thyroid function can change.

Iodine preparations can enhance the irritating effect of certain drugs (including acetylsalicylic acid) on the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract with accidental ingestion.

    Special instructions:

Iodine penetrates into breast milk and can potentially affect the function of the thyroid gland in children who are breastfeeding.
