Pyracetam is a nootropic agent, it has a positive effect on the metabolic processes of the brain. Increases the concentration of ATP in the brain tissue, enhances the synthesis of ribonucleic acid and phospholipids, stimulates glycolytic processes, increases the utilization of glucose. Pyracetam improves the integrative activity of the brain, improves memory, has a protective effect in various forms of cerebral hypoxia, facilitates the learning process. The drug improves the connections between the cerebral hemispheres and synaptic conductivity in the neocortical structures, improves and stabilizes the cerebral functions (especially memory and speech), increases mental performance.

Pharmacokinetics:

After ingestion, it is well absorbed and penetrates into various organs and tissues. Bioavailability, regardless of the dosage form, is about 95%. The time to reach the maximum concentration in the blood plasma is 30-60 minutes. Penetrates through the blood-brain barrier, accumulates in the brain tissue 1-4 hours after ingestion. From the cerebrospinal fluid is derived much more slowly than from other tissues. Virtually not metabolized. It is excreted by the kidneys.

In psychiatric practice: neurotic depressive states of various genesis with prevalence in the clinical picture of signs of adynamia, asthenic and senesto-hypochondriacal disorders, phenomena of ideomotor inhibition; sluggish-apathetic defective states in senile and atrophic processes; complex therapy of mental illnesses occurring on "organically inferior soil". As an aid in the treatment of depressive diseases resistant to antidepressants, as well as with poor tolerability of antipsychotics and other psychotropic drugs in order to eliminate or prevent the somatovegetative ones caused by them.neurological or psychiatric complications. Dosing and Administration:

This dosage form is recommended for children from 5 years - 1 capsule 3 times a day. The maximum daily dose is 1.8 g. The course of treatment: from 2 weeks to 2-6 months.

Side effects:

When using piracetam, there may be a decrease in appetite, increased irritability, agitation, increased sexual activity, sleep disturbance, headache, dizziness, convulsions, tremor, dyspeptic disorders, increased motor activity, in elderly patients, coronary insufficiency deteriorates occasionally. In these cases, you should reduce the dose or stop taking the drug.Side effects are most often observed at doses above 5 g / day.

In children, especially with mental retardation: fussiness, decreased ability to concentrate, anxiety, restlessness, motor disinhibition, imbalance, increased conflict.

Overdose:

Interaction:

Simultaneous use of piracetam with drugs that stimulate the central nervous system. strengthen their effects, with neuroleptics, their central effect (tremor, anxiety, etc.) increases. Pyracetam enhances the effect of oral anticoagulants. Increases the effectiveness of thyroid hormones, neuroleptics, psychostimulants. When administered with neuroleptics reduces the risk of extrapyramidal disorders.

Special instructions:

When taking pyracetam, periodic monitoring of renal function indicators is recommended (especially in patients with chronic renal insufficiency) - residual nitrogen and creatinine, and in patients with liver diseases - the functional state of the liver.

In the treatment of patients with cortical myoclonia, abrupt withdrawal of the drug should be avoided (risk of resumption of seizures).

If there is a disturbance in sleep, it is recommended to cancel the evening reception, adding this dose to the morning and evening dosages.
