    Pharmacodynamics:

    Antiseptic. When in contact with organic matter, it releases an atomic oxygen. The oxide formed in the reduction of potassium permanganate potassium oxide forms complex compounds with proteins - albumins (due to this potassium permanganate in small concentrations has astringent, and in concentrated solutions - irritating, cauterizing and tanning action). It also has a deodorizing effect.Effective in the treatment of burns and ulcers. Potassium permanganate ability to neutralize some poisons underlies the use of its solutions for washing the stomach with poisoning.

    When ingested, absorbed, providing hematotoxic effect (leads to the development of methemoglobinemia).

    The drug belongs to the list number 4 of the list of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, subject to control in the Russian Federation.

    Indications:

    Lubrication of ulcerous and burn surfaces - infected wounds, ulcers and skin burns.

    Rinsing of the mouth and oropharynx - for infectious and inflammatory diseases of the mucous membrane of the mouth and oropharynx (including angina).

    For rinsing and syringing with gynecological and urological diseases - colpitis and urethritis.

    For lavage - the stomach with poisoning caused by intake of alkaloids (morphine, aconitine, nicotine), prussic acid, phosphorus, quinine.

    Contraindications:

    Hypersensitivity.

    Dosing and Administration:

    Outer, local. In the form of aqueous solutions for washing the wounds (0.1-0.5%), for rinsing the mouth and throat (0.01-0.1%), for lubricating ulcer and burn surfaces (2-5%), for syringing (0.02 - 0.1%) in gynecological and urological practice, as well as gastric lavage for poisoning.

    To dissolve - several crystals are placed in a glass with warm water and mixed, the solution is used only freshly prepared.

    Side effects:

    Allergic reactions, when using concentrated solutions - burns and irritations.

    Overdose:

    Symptoms: severe pain in the oral cavity, along the esophagus, in the abdomen, vomiting, diarrhea; mucous membrane of the oral cavity and pharynx - edematic, dark brown, violet, laryngeal edema possible, development of mechanical asphyxia, burn shock, motor excitement, seizures, parkinsonism, hemorrhagic colitis, nephropathy, hepatopathy. With reduced acidity of gastric juice, the development of methemoglobinemia with pronounced cyanosis and respiratory distress is possible. The lethal dose for children is about 3 g, for adults 0.3-0.5 g / kg.

    Treatment: methylene blue (50 ml of 1% solution), ascorbic acid (in / in - 30 ml of a 5% solution), cyanocobalamin - up to 1 mg, pyridoxine (in / m - 3 ml of 5% solution).

    Interaction:

    Chemically incompatible with certain organic substances (coal, sugar, tannin) and easily oxidizable substances - an explosion may occur.
