Whole, purified from sepals and stems, false fruit and parts thereof(gipantium) of various forms: from spherical, ovate or oval to strongly elongated spindle-shaped; length of fruit 0.7-3 cm, diameter - 0.6-1.7 cm. At the top of the fruit there is a small round hole or pentagonal platform. Fruits - consist of overgrown fleshy, with ripening of succulent flower-plant (gipantia) and imprisoned in its cavity of numerous fruits - nuts. The walls of the dried fruit are hard brittle, the outer surface is shiny, less often matte, more or less wrinkled. Inside the fruit are abundantly lined with long, very stiff bristly hairs. Nuts are small, oblong, with slightly pronounced facets. The color of the fruit is from orange-red to brownish-red, brownish-black, the nuts are light yellow, sometimes brownish.
The smell is absent. The taste of water extract is sour-sweet, slightly astringent.
