    Composition:St. John's wort
    Description:

    Pieces of stems, leaves (greyish-green), flowers (yellow) of various shapes and immature fruit passing through a sieve with holes <7 mm in size. The smell is weak, peculiar. The taste of water extract is bitterish, slightly astringent.

    Pharmacodynamics:

    The herb of St. John's wort contains tannins, essential oil, triterpene saponins, vitamins C and E, flavonoids, anthraquinones, macro- and microelements and other biological active substances.

    Infusion of herb St. John's wort has an astringent, anti-inflammatory effect.

    Indications:

    Inflammatory diseases of the oral mucosa (including gingivitis, stomatitis); chronic colitis (as part of complex therapy).

    Contraindications:

    Hypersensitivity to the drug, children under 12 years. When administered orally, pregnancy, the period of breastfeeding.

    Dosing and Administration:

    About 10 grams (1 tablespoon) of St. John's Wort herbs are placed in enameled dishes, pour 200 ml (1 glass) of hot boiled water, cover with a lid and heat in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes, cool, at room temperature for 45 minutes, filter, remaining raw materials squeeze out. The volume of the infusion obtained is adjusted to 200 ml with boiled water.

    Take in warm water adults and children from 12 years to ½ cup infusion 2 times a day for 30 minutes before meals. The course of treatment is 2-3 weeks.

    For rinses, apply ½ cup warm infusion 3-4 times a day. The course of treatment is 5-10 days.

    Before use, the infusion is recommended to be shaken.

    Side effects:

    Allergic reactions are possible. When ingestion - photosensitizing effect (increased sensitivity of the skin to the action of sunlight),at long application can cause unpleasant sensations in the field of a liver (in right hypochondrium) and sensation of bitterness in a mouth.

    Overdose:

    Cases of overdose have not been registered to date.

    Interaction:

    With the combined use of St. John's wort with cyclosporine, warfarin, digoxin, steroid preparations, antiviral agents - HIV protease inhibitorsamprenavir, indinavir, nelfinavir, ritonavir, saquinavir) may reduce their effectiveness.

    The drug is able to enhance the photosensitizing effect of other medicines, incl. tetracyclines, sulfonamides, thiazide diuretics, quinolones, piroxicam.

    Special instructions:

    During treatment should refrain from prolonged exposure to the sun, from visiting the solarium.

    Effect on the ability to drive transp. cf. and fur:

    The drug does not affect the ability to engage in potentially dangerous activities that require increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions (including driving, working with moving mechanisms).
